Kinda OT, but the funniest instance of blitzing I ever ran across was at a local tournament in middle school where the rules allowed complete blitzing- no limits at all. One of my answers was "the dodo was a flightless bird now extinct because European colonists found it funny to bop the birds ...

University of Georgia: great atmosphere, awesome professors, etc. Honors program is one of the best in the country. You don't get screwed out of AP credits because the departments are so freakin' lenient at giving you credit for exams. Athens is the best college town in America. Dorms are pretty goo...

An online "publishing" would probably be more useful, but I think there's one floating around somewhere, though its written more towards the college level. As for the one quality I would look for, I would say a steady rhythm.

Give them a few minutes to do nothing but buzz in as fast as they can- no questions, just a pure buzzfest to compete for speed. If nothing else, it should get them to relax a bit. Then, practice with questions but tell them to buzz in as soon as they have any idea about what the answer might possibl...

The only hard and fast rule I can figure is to always guess when the question is over, the other team got it wrong, and enough time has elapsed that you know nobody on your team knows the answer.

For all that I complained about it, I did enjoy ACE. My only regrets are not having been the football fan I am now back then and that I didn't learn from my first year to bring some food on my own. Maybe quizbowl kids have a tendency towards sado-masochism, who knows...

Out of curiosity, what's a segregationist academy? My $.02: schools should at least be a club at the high school. Would it honestly be fair if the best players from say. Dorman and Brookwood, got together to be a team representing Brookman?

bonuses. Why? 1) I stutter over the word bonuses due to a combination of a Georgia education and growing up in a non-English speaking home. 2) Falling asleep in Latin and thus only learning certain parts of grammar. 3) It was handed down to me by upperclassmen when I was a freshman, so by now it's i...

In Georgia, the only really dominant team I saw was Walton. Brookwood, Milton, and Parkview fielded solid, even good teams, but nothing like the teams of 2001. I see a resurgence of Brookwood dominance in 2003-2004 for this state, with Walton graduating so many seniors.

Brookwood is always well run, they order Buck's pizza (best in the county), readers are usually decent, and it's close enough to home that I can be home while the sun is shining. Actually, it's close enough that I can still get lunch/dinner at home. I love having that school 8 minutes away, lots of ...
