Re: 2015 PACE NSC: June 6-7, Washington, DC
If you're underseeded, you've got a tougher prelim bracket. Though we did end up doing better, if we were seeded appropriately we might or might not have done better. Basically, you're saying that every team should end up in the exact position they were seeded in by the end of the tournament. The i...

Re: 2015 PACE NSC: June 6-7, Washington, DC
I'm using these as theoretical suggestions. They can't apply to us, but maybe for other teams with available information, they could be useful. Underseeding hurts all the teams in the same bracket, so I'm just suggesting what I think might help to prevent it in the future. You're right as to that th...

Re: 2015 PACE NSC: June 6-7, Washington, DC
It looks like my team was the dark horse going into our group seed. We knew we were under ranked going into PACE. Our lack of opportunities to play, alongside my team being much, much stronger on a non-NAQT distribution, probably put us lower than expected. Looking purely at HSQB rankings, our PPB d...

Re: ACRONYM at PACE NSC (Friday night)
Ending by 12 on Friday would be good for us too. We'd be good for more games on Saturday if it doesn't conflict with anything.

Re: ACRONYM at PACE NSC (Friday night)
My team and I are interested in playing. My only question is about what time is it going to run until. 12? 1?

Re: Suzhou, China
Suzhou is just a stone's throw from Shanghai. If you got the time, visiting Shanghai's Bund is very much worth the experience! You could even visit Shanghai American School (apparently the old campus is a certified tourist attraction). Anyways, to get back to Suzhou. Here are a couple things I've no...

Re: Asian Circuit Activity
Hi! Cool! The date for the Concordia tournament has already been set, if I'm not wrong, and I'll try and keep the dates for future competitions on here. I know Concordia's had a strange year, only further complicated with the "each activity can only travel once" rule. I'm going to try and ...

Re: HSQBRank 2013-2014: Witty Subtitle
Puxi and Pudong usually send 2 teams each, and Concordia sends one. The rest are a bunch of smaller schools whose participation in good quizbowl is very sporadic. We've only had 1 tournament with complete recorded stats, which was sometime in November.

Re: Asian Circuit Activity
Yea, I know its great that many teams are doing History Bowl/Bee, but I would like to see more and more school cross over into the broader Quizbowl community. We have too few tournaments that we can attend every year, as well a distinct lack of participating schools. I know geographical barriers are...

Asian Circuit Activity
I know its a little late to ask this, but how many active teams are there in Asia? So far I only know about 4 schools who actively practice pyramidal tournaments: Shanghai American School Puxi: Has won all three Quiz Bowl tournaments they have attended, including their regional History Bowl/Bee, and...

Re: Improving and Expanding my Team
I've been to my school library and picked up a book that covered most of the poetry that appears frequently. I usually read for about 40 minutes every night before I sleep, I'll try and incorporate short stories and plays into that. On a separate note, is it a good idea to play conservatively? I bas...

Re: Improving and Expanding my Team
Thanks for all the feedback! Since our school schedule is a little different, we really only have time for either PACE or HSNCT. If we attend HSNCT I'm aiming for about t-21ish place. The team sometimes uses protobowl for practice, but from what I've read in the forums, Bonus>Tossups for practice ma...

Improving and Expanding my Team
Hi! I'm currently a junior from Shanghai American School, and I'm looking to improve my team. I am a literature/fine arts/mythology player, with a little knowledge in everything else except science. I score approximately half my team's points. The other junior is our team's second scorer, who mainly...
