Re: How much do you study?

I suppose it depends on what you count as true studying. If you mean encountering material that has direct quizbowl implications, than I would say 1-2 hours on the average day outside of school. If you mean reading archives, articles, and seriously playing protobowl, than I would say 4-6 per week

Re: 2014 IHSA

I do agree that the history was somewhat faint. Even though I am by no means a history expert, it may have contained the most obscure/difficult answerlines.

Re: 2014 IHSA

Myth has a belonging in the question distribution, but it is very debatable on where it should be placed. While I guess having it in lit is acceptable and reasonable, it seems like it should just have it's own category, much like religion. Grant it, there is no press to do so, but it makes sense. My...

Re: 2014 IHSA

I found it odd that the Satre TU didn't mention No Exit or "hell is other people", I was able to get it at the end, but it seemed to be cut short a line or two.

Re: 2014 IHSA

The fact they didn't accept "Downfall of Matt Schaub's Career" for the title of the book on concussions was easily the most tragic moment of the night.

Re: Illinois '13-'14

Is there anywhere to go to see the state ranking/polling? If anyone has a link that would be great. Thanks.

Re: NAQT Illinois State Championship - 2/22/2014, Urbana, IL

As far as tossup rate is concerned, there are more reasons less TU's were heard in some rounds other than poor moderators (I really don't think we encountered one, maybe we just got lucky) and/or poor team production on the tossup. From my personal experience during the day, we had to melt the clock...

Re: Improving and Expanding my Team

It all depends on who you are up against. If you're playing a team that is clearly not quite at your talent level yet, then I would advise you to play conservatively. Even when playing in the aforementioned manner, I see no problem with going in with a 90% sureness. From my experience, at that perce...

What to Study in Science

I've recently been looking to fill our team's largest gap, science. While wikipedia, packets, and protobowl all seem to be suitable for literature, art, etc., it seems as if science is a whole other language. Granted, wikipedia has done a decent job with laws and cell structure, it still seems like ...
