I'm going to argue that, because of the way quiz bowl is played, "Sartre" is one of the few instances in which I would encourage mispronunciation. The "re" in "Sartre" should be a guttural r, which even when pronounced by a competent moderator can be effectively inaudib...

Still deciding between UCLA Law and Columbia Law; on the waitlist at Harvard and Yale. So definitely one of those four places, and probably listed in relative order of likelihood. Involvement in quizbowl dubious for year one, possible for following years.

Thank goodness Labov is finally in the canon: his stuff on AAVE is groundbreaking and super-accessible, and he was John Baugh's (also an awesome dude, worked with linguistic profiling) thesis advisor for goodness' sake. I don't know if he was tossupable before this tournament, but I'm glad he is now.

Just to be clear, the playoffs consisted of a 16-team single-elimination bracket rather than a bracket of top teams all playing each other. Also, I saw in the UCLA thread that with a low number of DI teams, you could just do one bracket instead of an octuple round robin on the DI side. Just a thought... Yes, I had thought of this, but I don't know how fair that is to either side, nor am I sure how that affects Div I/Div II teams' S-val...

I have updated the above field - the field size now appears to be 11 teams. Obviously, a full round-robin still will not be feasible, and brackets of 6 and 5 hardly seem fair to whomever gets lumped into the smaller bracket. Good news! Toronto has informed me that they will have 2 teams, not 1 as I had previously imagined. Thus, the field will consist of 21 teams, and the 7/7/7 prelim, 7/7/7 playoff bracket will work. Thanks everyone for your help!

Are there enough blind packets to run a schedule with no byes?
