PAveMEnT Playtesting

Hello! The writing team for PAveMEnT is looking for 3-4 people to playtest our set. We are looking for experienced players (college-aged and older) that are familiar with the styles of music in the set distribution. This will take place the weekend of November 20-22, preferably Sunday night. Please ...

Re: MARCATo (Summer 2020)

Rounds are spread over multiple days, one round per day.
Is there a tentative schedule for games? Or are we expected to have daily laptop access until the tournament is complete?

EDIT: I missed your post in the middle of the thread which answers my question.

Re: Trash Questions in College Sets

I don't have a particularly good ear to the ground in the "film world," but practically every time I listen, people are talking about the films of Jordan Peele—there are ways to ask about them that engage cinematography, themes, symbolism, etc. that I think are perfectly appropriate for an academic...

This set will not be played until the next in-person open tournament where there is enough interest to play it, so at the earliest fall/winter of 2020. As of now, I'm not really interested in hosting an online mirror due to the amount of effort I'm putting into this and the ease of cheating on a sid...

Re: JORDU: A Jazz Side Event (Summer 2020)

The 10-11 lines is with Times 12 pt font and includes bracketed pronunciations. All tossups we have written so far are shorter than both the Django tossup from Fall Open and St Louis Blues from RULFO, so there shouldn't be an issue with question length.

JORDU: A Jazz Side Event (Summer 2020)

Will Bordowitz and I are in the process of writing JORDU (Jazz is Often Rare and Disappointingly Unappreciated), a side event that will be ready by the fall of 2020 . This set's difficulty will be open -level. The intent behind this set is to expose interested players to jazz history and composition...

Is the main site prepared to host all the teams that were planning on going to Columbia, in addition to everyone going to Maryland? I hope you're not going to cap the number of teams and have a bunch of interested players not able to play, after revoking this mirror.

Thanks for starting this discussion, Douglas. I also think the New England circuit is more competitive this year. There are several teams with clear potential to finish near the top at HSNCT and PACE NSC. I’m not sure if teams just plan on attending HSNCT like last year (Lexington was the only New E...

Re: The Unanswered Question: A 20th Century Fine Arts Tournament

Can you provide a little more info on the criteria for "20th century fine arts"? For example, could a composer like Mahler be included in the set? If so, would the questions be based on clues from his work after 1900, or could they span his entire career?

The "Ewig" clue for Gustav Mahler seems to be a bit of a stock clue, I must say (I saw it in either NASAT 2013 or 2014 and possibly one other set). Did not compete at PACE, just my two cents.

I agree with Jon in that it's not really worth doing anything about, but Victor's claims aren't entirely baseless - at the Bee, I experienced something similar with these buzzersystems.com buzzers .
