Re: Should ACF tossups be shorter?

In the abstract and if the goal is to decrease writing time, I'd imagine that looser length requirements are faster to write than strict limits. I'd echo the previous point that leadins and giveaways are likely the fastest parts to write as the former gives the writer the most leeway with question s...

First off, I want to say that this set was (and since it will still be used, is) fantastic. Matt Jackson and Eric Mukherjee edited a set that has such good questions that I almost forgot that it was written in one month. If you see anyone who was on the writing team for this tournament on the street...

On this note, what about questions that are not only ambiguous but completely wrong? Can one call "The Interpreter of Maladies" a novel? Can one call Ulysses a novella? Is confusion over such an error protestable?

The key to playing IHSA is maintaining one's cool. It's too bad that playing it is like having a crawdad pinching on each appendage.

Really working on not making each game into a rendition of Glengarry Glen Ross.

Nobody is saying that great players do not inspire others. I never wrote that, and this thread is misguided if people continue to argue over this point. What I did say was that teams with more people active have more people who are benefiting from quiz bowl. This is a tautological statement, and per...

At the very least, you would have to look back earlier than the 2012-2013 season to test your hypothesis. Also, a lot of the older players who are active now were still playing during the era of Loyola-IMSA-Belvidere North, so you could even argue that playing games against more one-man teams playe...

Does anyone know what next year holds for the existence and tournament attendance of the IMSA team? As far as I know, Dan Pechi has been seeing if 1507 (his and Waleed's residence hall) Residence Counselors would be willing to coach. If that plan falls together, then the IMSA team should exist. For Roman History, Gibbon is great. Also, A Brief History of the Romansby Mary T. Boatwright et al. is quite decent for an overview. It's about 300 pages and a 10 hour read, and it covers everything from the first Latin city-states to the barbarian invasions of Western Rome.
