Re: Are you allowed to play for more than one team?
I'm confused about the nature of the schools you're enrolled in. Could you explain why it is you are taking classes for two high schools? Is this a case of a magnet school within a larger school? One school is a magnet school that anyone school in our district can send students to in order to take ...

Are you allowed to play for more than one team?
Technically, I go to two schools, and both are going to have Quiz Bowl teams next year. I'm wondering if I would be allowed to play on both of their teams at NAQT events and History Bowl, not at the same tournament, of course. The reason that I want to do this is because one is going to History Bowl...

Re: Books "for Quizbowl"
For history, I can't recommend anything more highly than this textbook: http://www.amazon.com/History-Western-Society-John-McKay/dp/0395708419/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1340371107&sr=8-6&keywords=Western+Society+5th+edition It's made for a standard European history course in college, but it...

Re: Buzzing in faster
The first line buzzer race was definitely an anomaly, but I've been thinking that it might be because the only questions I've played before were very pyramidal (is that the word?) and these were shorter, which seems to affirm what you just said. EDIT: Reading around the site, I realize why I thought...

Re: Buzzing in faster
I understand what you guys are saying about learning more, which is a strategy that is sure to work, but these questions we were playing were just plain easy in the prelims. I don't want to say a lot, because I assume these questions are still going to be played (they are National History Bowl quest...

Buzzing in faster
Yesterday was my second Quizbowl competition and I think we did fairly well, but there were a few things holding us back that I am trying to find solutions to. One place I missed a lot of points was buzzing - the questions were fairly easy, so everyone knew the answer, and I was always on the losing...

Re: Bulldog Bowl III @ Drake University 2/18/2012
Are alternates allowed? We had two alternates at the history bowl that could switch out between rounds, so I thought it might be the case here too.
