Re: On the proper method to stop negging so much

As the player with the most negs on my team consistently, I also struggle with this! I remember HSNCT last year, Dylan (we had Matt Moschella), and I remember you getting really upset after a few negs in our match and that throwing your team off for the rest of the game. The number one thing about n...

Re: VHSL States

What a thrilling finish to the season! My full applause to Western Albemarle for winning two games in a row on the last tossup, and congrats in kind to New Kent for winning a game on the last tossup as well! New Kent's (first!) title was very well-deserved. Congratulations to everyone involved; exce...

Re: VHSL States

I'd like to continue the discussion in this thread by saying that I too am interested, as is my team as a whole, in how the bracketing for states is going to work out as far as the losers bracket. That being said, Honaker and George Mason should end up going head to head again this year, though I ha...

Re: Non-DC Metro Virginia 2012-2013

Discussion of this year's states should probably form another thread in the DC Metro Comparisons and Discussions. Cave Spring and Christiansburg are moving on from the Southwest Virginia region, whose tournament today saw Cave Spring beat Christiansburg twice to take first place while Christiansburg...

Re: What is the best method for rapid improvement?

I do remember playing you guys and I was impressed because prior to this year, I don't think our team had ever heard of or played you! If you find that you're the only one that's really motivated, you're going to have problems; but it seems like your whole team is particularly motivated to study and...

Re: Tips for a brand new quizbowl player

I flippin did it again. Typed up 3 paragraphs and then hit tab (to indent) which took my focus off of the typing, and then hit backspace, and lost all my writnig. I need to start typing in a notepad and copying it over here.... In case if you don't want to read this, you don't have to. I know ...

Re: Are 20 Questions Enough?

YAGHH I typed up a whole 4 paragraphs and then my computer froze so I lost all I had. But I'll restart, with a shorter version; Yeah, this is extremely optimistic. Let's say that you do move to 24/24 rounds. That means that it is reasonable to expect that every 5 rounds you've essentially added an e...

Re: How to print for free (well, sort of)

Nice tip. We usually stay in a Hampton Inn when we go on a few vacations, I'll have to start using their resources instead of our school's! (Librarian got mad at me for "printing lots of pages every day!") Thanks again! *Reads questions while eating a free breakfast on a comfy bed, feeling...

Re: Attracting New Players

I think the #1 thing that people hate about it is when they show up for practice and get 0 questions....and then they come back the next time, and get 0. And maybe they get one every 3 practices they go to. That's a major turn-off for most students, at least as far as I've seen. I know when I starte...

Re: Talking to the coach

I'm surprised nobody has said this thus far, but something that I would do is get your team together and raise ... $60 or however much a tournament would cost and then approach your teacher. If they realise that you're REALLY willing to actually go places and it's not just in word only, I think they...
