Re: Men of Quizbowl, We Should Talk.

What I most want to highlight here is this, men in quiz bowl need to be willing to lose face and to lose standing in our personal relationships to make quiz bowl a more open and accepting place. Until that is more widely accepted and practiced, it is going to be hard to make meaningful change, beca...

Knowing several players on both teams, I feel like I am well prepared to write one of my universally well-received Teddy Atlas style "tale of the tapes" for this, complete with notes on the producers of questions, the strategic styles of the teams, the "x-factor" of Jacob Reed's science knowledge, w...

Without a doubt, the single best way to get points in "Current Events" is to do some deep dives into political histories of most countries. I'll also add that we have always provided lunch at every tournament we have hosted - even taco bars - so if you are going to complain about prizes please consider folks who provide lunch too - this is often a major cost that I rarely see when I travel to other tournaments. One thing I might recommend is always trying to be what I'll call "intellectually curious." Re: What is the most pressing concern in college quizbowl to

How "difficulty" works in quizbowl is very different from how it is supposed to work. I think people think of difficulty like a pyramid - where as difficulty goes up, questions are gettable by less and less of those playing. How that works in practice is that the difficulty of questions is measured ...
