Re: MUT @ Arizona State University (5/10/2014)

It is my understanding that the undergraduates at the University of Arizona don't finish finals until the next week, so we will be unable to attend.

Re: Arizona Quizbowl Association - Arizona NAQT SCT (2/9/14)

The University of Arizona will officially emerge from our lengthy slumber to attend this tournament. Sadly for my unsuspecting young teammates, we will be D1. As an aside, should our preferences be part of the scheduling calculus, the U of A would find it much easier to attend tournaments on Saturda...

Re: ACF Fall 2013 California--UC Berkeley (11/2/13)

The University of Arizona is going to attempt to put together a team for this tournament. I'm loathe to write a packet, pay $120, and drive the completely unreasonable distance from Tucson to San Francisco all by myself, but we'll see if I can recruit some teammates.

The announcement did not come in time for our players to put together a packet, but ASU intends to send one team of freshmen and two staffers. Registration should happen sometime in the next 24 hours.

We sent an e-mail recently regarding confirming the Arizona tournament on at ASU on the EDIT: 14th to hosting at NAQT but have yet to hear anything back. Can we go ahead and formally announce that tournament?

Count on ASU being in attendance. We'd like to have a second team, but I have a feeling we won't. We'll e-mail you and take care of the official registration as soon as we decide how many people we're sending.

Re: Events that are on the docket

As for a response to the OP: ASU currently has a tournament in a draft stage that we would like to put on hypothetically in late January 2012, or possibly December 2012. We'll post more information as we plot things out further, but we're conditionally shooting to hold an open tournament of varied d...

I'd appreciate any feedback on the linguistics, which I wrote/edited. Really quickly: -Finishing the Unfinished Symphony wa...

I'm sure Kenneth will post here echoing the sentiment that the science questions were extremely difficult, and after loading up with two science specialists, that did certainly make this tournament very hard on us. To be brief and stick to what I know a bit about, I thought the economics questions w...

Re: GUERRILLA III - Friday, 4/8/11 - ICT Hotel, Chicago

A couple of questions: -This will be starting 9:30 PM, Friday night, yes? Is there a definitive time commitment associated with it, i.e., would playing this mean playing until 1, 2, 3 AM, such that we might be limited to 7, 6, 5 hours of sleep? -Do these packets have bonuses? Or is that left to our ...

Re: INTEREST CHECK: Antwerp or MUT Delayed Mirror on 3/19/11

If you do end up flying, you're going to want to fly into Phoenix Sky Harbor. There's a shuttle that takes you to the nearest light rail station, and if you take the light rail 3-4 miles east, you can get off at either of the stations that run directly through the university.

An enjoyable time will be had by all at this tournament! I have large amounts of couch/floor space, as I'm sure some of our other members do as well, should that be an added incentive (like 80 degrees and sunshine isn't enough?) to anyone on the fence about making the trek. Same also goes for the MU...

And yes, a guaranteed econ question every round (well, 'guaranteed' in the sense that 2/2 are coming off each packet). And for the econ distribution, I won't be using the Economist as a source! While I'd normally consider the market for quizbowl tournaments close to perfectly competitive and the at...

Now the tough question: would you travel to Phoenix for a tournament? See if y'all can recruit a few new teams (Arizona? New Mexico? Northern Arizona? University of Phoenix? UTEP?) and we'd definitely be up for a once-a-semester roadtrip. Not nearly as far as the Bay Area for us and with lots more ...

Having played on a similar team against some familiar opposition at Fall and at ACF Novice, I feel that by and large, Fall was appropriately more difficult, and sufficiently close in difficulty (again, on the whole) as last year's Fall. Something I did notice, however, was the amount of variation in...

ASU has seven competitors in San Diego at the moment, so we're not sure if we should stick with our previous three team commitment as 3, 2 and 2 (which might or might not be reasonable, as we have a couple players with closer to a year of experience) or compact into two teams of 3 and 4. Arizona State will be sending a delegation again this year, but we're unlikely to be able to get an exact headcount for another week or two at the earliest.
