Re: Coach Reading for Own Team: Advantage?

I'm a fan of coaches reading at tournaments, especially tournaments in which there are inexperienced moderators. However, impartiality is the key, and though my experience has been that 99% of the coaches are impartial, I believe people cross the line at times. We've played against a team the last f...

Re: How far can a blitz/creator-creation answer go?

Not that you're ever likely to coach a team in Illinois and under the Illinois High School Association scholastic bowl rules, but, as a point of comparison, the rule has been that up to 2 pieces of relevant and correct information could be shared. So, in your example, answers such as "O'Brien i...

Re: Power Matching for Practices

What is the goal for these practices? Is it for determining your best team of 4 or to help all your players in getting better? I know my top few players; this would simply be another competitive tool to add to practices to keep them interesting. Last year, I ran a solo double elimination tourney in...

Power Matching for Practices

I'm trying to figure out how I can use some sort of power matching in practices. For instance, is there a way to have 16 players compete 1-on-1 in eight separate, five-minute matches, and then send each competitor to play someone of identical record for the next series of eight matches, and on, and ...

Re: Jr. Wildcat @ Northwestern University (3/5/11)

If it's not too late to enter, King's academy is interested in playing on 3/5. We're a home-school co-op that had an opportunity to play on the CMST question set at IVCC last spring and would love an opportunity to play at Northwestern. If you could get the info to me (jkulesza@wheatonacademy.org), ...

Re: ATTN: U of I Quizbowl people and/or Coach Grant

Any chance there are still some openings at your middle school NAQT on 2/16? If so, King's Academy would love to play. We played at Nathan's tourney last March and would really like to play in some tourneys this year as well. We're a home school co-op from the Northwest/West suburbs.

Re: Looking For Mirrors: SCOP Novice Tournament Oct 2010

Thanks much for already doing the leg work for us! We'll be sure to get the check to wherever we end up. The official entry would be for King's Academy, not Wheaton Academy, as the signature might suggest.

Re: Looking For Mirrors: SCOP Novice Tournament Oct 2010

Just saw that the Lisle site is almost full. Based on the last posting here, does it seem likely that the NIU site is a go? I'd really like to have a team play in this tourney, but would be happy to try to register at Lisle if NIU doesn't work out.

Re: Northwestern University "Wake Up Call" (10/16/2010)

I entered a middle-school aged home-school team (King's Academy) in a tourney at IVCC last spring, and the players had a great time and want to do it again. Some of the same players are able to compete on October 16, so we'll plan to register along with Barrington. If there ends up being no middle s...

Re: ADVANTAGE (12/18/2010) at New Trier (Winnetka, IL)

I should probably know this...with the tourney being ACF rules, does that mean we don't have to count it as one of our 18 IHSA dates? Just trying to make sure we don't cross the line.
