Greetings fellow Midwest Quiz Bowl folks... I would like to send out a quick reminder that we are hosting the 3rd Annual Comet Open at Greenville (IL) High School on Saturday February 12. Dr. Prince- may I safely presume this is a 4-on-4 event? I announced BMI as 5-on-5 since I didn't think many teams we are targeting will have any 4-on-4 experience all year, so there was little use in imposing it for one tournament. If there ends up being a Chicagoland mirror, it will most certainl...

Attend as many quiz bowl tournaments as you can. I just finsished moving, the masters' degree program is in the rear-view mirror, and suddenly I have a lot more time on my hands than in years past. I'm Board of Education approval away from two long-distance trips for tournaments. Let's do this thing.

The 3rd Annual Greenville Comet Open will take place at Greenville (IL) High School on Feb 12, 2010. I am currently seeking to mirror another tournament (EDIT note below); we will be using mACF format (preferably with powers, no negs). Great stuff.
I may be able to offer Greenville as a site for Oct 30, but I'm afraid that would be over-egging the pudding in this part of the state since you have sites at Springfield & Carbondale.
I'll be in touch.

The only thing that I worry about at any regional, regardless of class, is moderator quality. I really don't think that the issues related to the sub-categories affected the outcome of any particular match, however, I can see where a coach would want to cry foul if his/her team lost a close match because there were one too many art questions and one too few music questions. I don't think anyone has pointed out yet that getting rid of announced sub-categories is a huge step in the right direction.
