Who the hell cares what the average anime fan is like? I fail to see how that pertains to the subject of whether it should be asked in quizbowl. Matt Weiner's post up until the last 3 sentences seems to sum the issue up pretty well, unless anyone disagrees with it.

Now, Lists ain't the best way to study. However, what else should I do to study Lit? All I do all day e'ry day is read lists, memorize authors, and read books that are high frequency on the list. Where can I find questions with stock clues for literature? Also, reading the wiki synopsis for books.....

The only real objection I've heard from NAQT members is that NAQT may have to offset the financial loss of no longer charging for packets in some fashion (eg: raising HSNCT entry fees, raising licensing costs, lowering contributor payments). Also, few (if any) states have the privilege of being able to play against so many good teams within such a short distance of each other. There are 5 or more schools capable of making the top bracket of NSC next year in Illinois - not many schools have the opportunity to play that many good schools...

Maybe this was true in the past, but now that we DO have a strong circuit of nationally competitive teams, driving 30 minutes and playing teams that are as good or better seems like a pretty good option.

What we really need is to convince people that the NAQT championship is just as legitimate of a title. I'm open to having teammates for BELFAST if people still haven't found teams - I know a decent amount about visual arts (mainly paintings/2-D stuff) and opera, but not much else.

I do support bouncebacks, since I think they make the narrow gap between teams at the top level a little bit more likely to show. When the top 10 teams are all playing games that end up within 100 points, that extra bit of differentiation can help the more knowledgeable ("deserving") team ...

Maybe our schools' program is just crazy, but we have two students that took 2 years of AP Physics and weren't familiar with that material. Meanwhile Graham's law came up several times in both Honors and AP Chemistry.
