Re: Interest check: Chicagoland tournament, 4/30 or 5/21
Just out of curiosity, what would this tournament's policy be in terms of intentionally hosing its participants?

Some group of Illinois players(so far me and Nolan Winkler) are trying to go to this.

Re: Team Illinois Tryouts for NASAT
For the subject round, how many questions will it be? Will there be tossups and bonuses or just tossups, and how many rounds worth of questions will be asked during that round?

Re: April Tournament?
I'd be interested in this. I'll try to get some teammates for this, but if I can't, I'll probably still go. It'd be cool if we could use a set with power marks since both nats use them(and they're more fun) although I don't know which(if any) of the 3 sets mentioned above have powers.

Re: Illinois '09-'10
They won't lose anyone for next year I assume Julia takes great offense to that. And I don't know what year Mark is. Mark's a junior. And even though we lose Julia, we have 2-3 decent sophomores this year that can take her place and actually be very good if they committed to getting better/showing ...

Re: Fremd Varsity & Frosh/soph 1/23/10
I am more interested if there were any particularly harrowing stories to be related about the in-house moderators which were invariably used for the playoffs at this tournament. Since "district employees" have to be given preference over outside moderators due to contractual issues with D...

Re: Fremd Varsity & Frosh/soph 1/23/10
Stevenson defeated Fremd 202-175 in the finals of the varsity tournament. The game came down to the final tossup, which was a transparent piece of garbage tu on "don't ask don't tell" that began something like "Name this 4 word phrase. Blah Controversial Military Blah". The final...

Re: Early Season Poll
I'd say this poll is a pretty good ranking of the teams thus far. I think the top 5 or 6 teams will all beat each other up all year, though. I'm looking forward to the Harvard Mirror. It'll let us know how we stack up against other teams when we are at full strength. Also, Zach and I don't really ov...

Re: Illinois '09-'10
well, stevenson was expecting to go to this, but apparently our registration got lost in the mail, so we will not be going. this really sucks too because we were excited to play this. You must be kidding. Has your coach actually said, "We're not going to Kick-Off"? Or are you inferring ba...

Re: Illinois '09-'10
A few questions about the questions at kickoffs: Will there be comp. math? What style of bonuses are we using? 3 part 30 point bonuses or IHSA format? As for the tournament format, I'd guess there'll be 10 groups of 6. Winners of each pool+ 6 wildcards move on(probably based on ppg). 16 team single ...

Re: New Trier Scobol Solo 11/7/09
I think 14 philosophy questions is doable. I'd definitely say it's easier than 14 social science questions, since Jonah's distro has 1 SS per round I think. I think the best way to do it would be philo/relig/myth/SS get 3 questions total per round, but that would mess up the category awards. Also, ...

Re: New Trier Scobol Solo 11/7/09
This tournament was incredibly well run. Running 32 matches at a time while keeping (somewhat)elaborate stats all on questions written mainly by one person is amazing. Thanks to New Trier and their coaches for running this event. It was easily the most fun tournament I've been to. As for the distri...

Stevenson will be missing Zach for the whole tournament and another starter who will be there only for the playoffs(if we make it that far).Jane Fairfax wrote:Are there several significant people missing this due to PSAT?

What are the rules regarding IHSA guidelines and college tournaments? If high school teams go to them, would it have to be under aliases or something like that?

Re: Illinois '09-'10
I agree with Zahed that the IESA is not a good way to measure Stevenson this year. Although we had loads of success in 7th/8th grade, the only real competition we had was against Barrington Station in the sectionals, which was harder than any match at the State tournament, and the questions were awf...

Re: Illinois '09-'10
I will be trying to convince our coach to take us to both Nationals this year. I know Stevenson went to PACE NSC in 2001, so I'm pretty sure he'll be ok with it. I'd rather go to PACE than HSNCT, but since HSNCT is so close we'd probably go to that if we had to choose one. Our coach retired from te...

First post on these forums. I am Kevin from Stevenson and have been reading the board for a while but am finally deciding to post. Here's a preview for Stevenson this year. Zach-Obviously our best player and 1st team all stater. He pretty much gets every geography question, and is very strong in his...
