Reading 8, 9, even 10 line tossups was a bit wearing on the reader's end. I really thought a good number of them could've taken off the first 2-3 lines and would have been just as pyramidal. Difficulty was a bit variable, but generally just under what I would say ACF Regs difficulty would be. Overal...

Moving back to the topic at hand.... I've always wondered how teams with one really strong player plus a decent supporting group end up doing against teams who lack a superstar but are more balanced overall. In GA this year, it looks like Brookwood and Walton are both cases of the latter while Chatt...

Tournament at the Arch (Varsity/JV) on March 1st @ UGA
The University of Georgia is pleased to announce its second annual Tournament At The Arch (TATA) to be held on the campus of the University of Georgia on March 1st, 2008. Note that this is the last tournament before the GATA state tournament and also that this is an SAT date, albeit with no subject ...

We promised teams that we'd be done by 5 and had the championship match end just after 4, so we finished well ahead of schedule. Each prelim round was an average of 30 minutes, which I think is definitely above-average for tournaments who use 20 questions, read all 3 parts of the bonuses, and keep i...

I'm curious where this was announced, since it seems like there's always a good number of tournaments that are out there that some people know about but others don't. For example, there's an NAQT HS tournament not too far from us hosted by Piedmont College in February but I hadn't heard of it before...

Brief results after 7 prelim rounds and a top 8 playoff (yet still done by 4): 1. Dorman A (50+ powers in 7 prelim rounds; 4-1 P/N ratio) 2. Dorman B 3. Walton (by default over 4. Brookwood) By virtue of finishing in the top 15% (rounded up), Dorman A, Dorman B, and Walton all qualify for the 2008 H...

The complete TIT announcement can be found at http://www.hsquizbowl.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4608 We will likely follow that very closely, although there might be a few changes, especially in packet deadlines since we are announcing this late.

Hmm, we weren't at COTKU so we hadn't heard anything about tournaments at UF. But there is a good 6 hour drive between Athens and Gainesville and considering the number of teams (which seems to be growing) that are active in the region I think the market can handle it. We certainly didn't mean to st...

Since I don't have it in front of me I can't think of too many specific questions, but like bjb87 I really enjoyed this set. SEC fans crybabies? Last year all those Big 10ers were aching for a rematch but fortunately common sense prevailed and Florida showed that Urban Meyer could coach well enough to destroy the Big 10 champ. Whether that can happen again this year is a matter of speculation, but I would hesitate to dism...

The SEC not the toughest? I'm not sure I agree with that- sure we may not have any superstar national champ contenders this year, but the SEC East at least may be the deepest division in I-A for the quality of teams on the whole. Even in the West the MS teams might be returning to respectability and...

I like the Vandy team and I think they are good, but I don't think they are 10 spots better than USF. Discuss. One question that always seems to come up about now is if a team that has more quality wins is better than a team that has a better record overall. One of the main reasons for hosting these is to earn money for your club, and I highly doubt a high school would get a bid over a college team for that reason. It'd basically be like taking money out of the college circuit instead of spreading it around. Eh, I dunno about that. If there aren't any ...

What teams? From a brief overview of the stats, maybe 20-25% of teams who played averaged around 150 or less PPG. while the best teams were well into the upper 300s/lower 400s.
