Re: Music notes as clues/what is music knowledge?

I actually really like using note clues in work tossups--they're much more buzzable than "This piece's allegro vivace section features trombones playing over muted strings..." or whatever generic thing most tossups use. Are you sure about this? From the perspective of someone who has only...

Re: PACE NSC: format changes, 2010 information

Does 18 for 18 count as a grail? Dorman pulled this off against Charter C at the 2008 TJIAT. It was a timed IS set and the reader only got through 18 questions. For real though, hats off to St. Anselm's for doing this at NSC. That's super impressive. http://activities.tjhsst.edu/quizbowl/2008tjiat/t...

Re: Getting Good at History

I will join the support for Palmer and Colton's A History of the Modern World . It is an excellent textbook, very informative and not that difficult to read. Another good European History resource is Modern European History by Birdsall S. Viault. You may not get the deeper clues and probably won't f...

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: T-Party Southeast at Furman (2/13)

If Furman is closed in the morning (2 hour delay?), we could still have a tournament. It may go a little longer, but certainly it wouldn't go longer than other tournaments Clemson has recently attended.

Re: A theory on toss-up/bonus pairing

Not that I have that much preference between associated bonuses and non-associated bonuses, but what makes associated bonuses bad quizbowl? I don't really see what's so wrong about rewarding a team with knowledge in a subject, say literature, with a lit bonus. I apologize if I am asking about someth...

Re: South Carolina 2009-2010

From what I've heard, none of Dorman A, Dorman B, Southside A, and Southside B were their regular teams, and Dorman's "B" team won the tournament. I know that Dorman played no seniors. I may be mis-remembering something though.

Can you explain what this means? I'm not too familiar with PATH and other non-standard (by standard I mean what's on SQBS) quizbowl stats.

It was Alex Drake from Robinson HS. He did not call Eric Huff, I think it may have been the Raleigh Charter Coach.

Re: 2009 NAQT HSNCT

I think Henry was probably given more time than the rules allow. However, while I know R. had a difficult decision whether or not to call time (as that call decided the outcome of the tournament), after he made his call he did the only thing he could, since protesting the moderator's timing is not a...

Re: 2009 NAQT HSNCT

Can someone explain how Dorman can come in second after beating Charter 3 times and then losing once? Dorman beat Charter twice the first day, which didn't really matter, since both teams finished at least 7-3. On the second day, Charter's only loss was to Dorman, while Dorman lost to Charter and s...

Re: Why isn't there talk of this? (Nadal d. Federer)

This is the difference between Federer and Tiger: Tiger does not reach expectations in victory, while Federer plays better than expected in losses. I disagree. First of all, Federer was expected to win Wimbledon. You cannot argue that he was not the favorite (with him having won five times in a row...

Re: Bad Negs--we miss you!

Let's not talk about ACE Camp questions yet, as many people reading this board will attending Milligan/MSM later in the summer and I would guess that they use the same questions.
