I have to admit I was pretty mortified when I realised a nationals side event I was reading for a couple years ago that had alcohol present and a general adult-ish atmosphere had at least one team of high schoolers with a coach (I guess) in tow. They left early.

I wasn't taking notes or anything, but the set was harder than what I was expecting. I'd also very much like to echo Bruce's comments regarding the rushed copyediting, though I did like the couple instances where readers were directed to read slowly for the players' benefit.

I'd like to echo that NAQT's management is very accommodating to circumstances that might hinder one's question production or ability to staff. This naturally comes with a recommendation that workers communicate any issues that would cause that.

For the record, there is decent interest in elementary quiz bowl (primarily 5th/6th graders, I think) in Missouri, with a few tournaments each year. I agree that starting a kid in 2nd grade on "career" quizbowl is not a great idea, but I don't see any reason why a tournament or two a year...
