Re: Next Year
Isn't JM graduating Wo, Matt, and Chuhern? I've never seen their B team, but this year's A team was very good, so that's definitely a lot to lose. Indeed- Wo, Matt, and I are graduating. Dylan Vasey is the only member of this year's A team who will still be around next year, although JM returns 3/4...

Re: Monroe Academic TournamenT at James Monroe (5/16/09)
Of course half of the field is going to score over 20 ppb; half of your field is Maggie Walker, GDS, Walter Johnson, Gonzaga, Walt Whitman and TJ A, who are all teams likely to go deep into the playoffs at whatever nationals they go to. I suppose that's the point; a set intended for nationwide dist...

Re: Unnamed tournament at James Monroe (5/16/09)
The conventional wisdom is to have a one-game final if the top two teams are tied, an advantaged final if a team has a one-game advantage (so, say, 6-0 versus 5-1), and no final if a team finishes two or more games ahead. This sounds extraordinarily reasonable. I will definitely adopt the one-game ...

The current plan for this tournament, if we end up with 18 teams, is to divide into three preliminary brackets of six, and then rebracket after lunch with the top two teams from each prelim bracket advancing into a playoff bracket of six. Just as literature tossups have moved from name-dropping and title-dropping early to giving plot details and such earlier on, geography tossups can move atlas clues more towards...
