Re: Ocean Science Bowl
I competed in this all 4 years of high school- not pyramidal, but I personally enjoyed it. Lots of state college people used to do this and science bowl as well. Any specific questions?

Re: Harvard Fall Tournament VII (Cambridge, MA 11/10/12)

St....

Re: Peaceful Resolution Mirror at Harvard (3/3/2012)
Brown won the tournament by going 11-0 for the day. Since there were only four teams, there was a double round robin for the first six games. Then we added two house teams and did a single round robin between the six teams. Stats can be found here: http://hsquizbowl.org/db/tournaments/917/stats/comb...

I seem to have just missed my objective of out-negging every other team at this tournament by myself. Darn.

Re: What We Talk About When We Talk About Difficulty
The whole point of pyramidal/good quizbowl is that we can ask questions on easy things with leadins that are challenging enough to distinguish top teams. If you are unable or unwilling to understand this then you do not understand good quizbowl and would have a hard time articulating why we bother ...

Re: Harvard Fall Tournament VI (11/12/11)
Look, certainly it's within Harvard's rights to create a difficult tournament, and there may be a niche served by an event where lots of top national teams can come together and play a difficult tournament. The problems are: 1) Harvard seemingly insisting that all tournaments should look like this ...

Re: Excelsior Rankings
Have you given any thought to accounting for the individual players on teams? You could make some sort of parameter that takes the players from each SQBS file and rank them nationally while taking into account the strength of schedule, difficulty of set, and the shadow effect. I just think it would...

Re: Boston/ NE/ Something summer practices
Hey, so Christoph, Daniel Chupin, and I are in Boston right now as well... I think we'll be leaving on Friday-ish and will have work to do up until Thursday, so we were wondering if people would be up for a Thursday afternoon practice somewhere, perhaps?

Did anybody else have issues with buzzers? Before the playoffs, we only had one game where everything was fully functional.

If I recall correctly, Stuyvesant beat Gonzaga in the semis, State College beat Hunter in the other semifinal game, and Stuyvesant beat State College in the finals.
