If you are looking for questions in Florida's format, the people who run the state competition sell their old questions. I coached the district's team at CAC last year, and I DEFINITELY don't want CAC questions. That tournament is extremely specialized, and if any of my kids make the district team,...

I thought I remembered hearing a lot of grumbling about QU. Our district questions are in no way pyramidal. The format is 2 10 minute rounds of direct tossups (they seek to discourage powers-- there is no power bonus, but there is a penalty if they buzz early and the answer is wrong) followed by a 2...

Buying Questions
Our team has very few questions, so I'm trying to buy a diverse set of materials. We bought the NAQT starter packet, but our local tournament is WAY easier than NAQT (and has a lot of computational math/geometry). Does anyone have any suggestions? Any opinions on the Questions Unlimited stuff that l...

I guess most FL high schools just don't feel inclined to travel far during the season. I've always felt that FL quiz bowl is very insular; most FL teams go to nearby FL tournaments, or maybe to events in Georgia or Alabama. I don't really know why that is. To be honest though, I feel that ultimatel...

Now, from everything I see on this board, it seems like we (Florida) are generally absent from the world of quizbowl outside of PAC. Am I seeing things wrong? If I'm not, why is that? No, you're right. I'm not sure why...maybe teams that know about outside tournaments don't go because they're not u...

Good job Team Florida! 4th, 2nd, and 3rd place over the last three years of PAC...perhaps next year will be the year we bring the title back home! And congrats to Illinois and Missouri! First off, congrats to team Illinois for the championship, and to all 6 teams for making the finals. It's hard en...

Re: Panasonic Results
Greetings from Orlando! Much to my surprise, we have a computer with internet access in our room that apparently doesn't cost anything. So, it looks like I might be able to offer up some updates after all. Yeah, we got that nice surprise at CAC as well. The front desk didn't even realize what was g...

Either day seems open on my school's calendar, so I don't see much of a preference. My calendar doesn't show us having any holiday for Veterans Day, so I'd make sure you don't try to use the holiday for districts that don't get the day off. I'm an FSU alum, so it'd be fun to have my team's first tou...

We know Peggy's retiring, and she did have someone working with her, but these tournaments have been her babies. The head coach I worked with, who coached a team at all but one CAC, and Team Florida 2 or 3 times, is concerned at what will happen when she retires. There's nothing official out there, ...

I coached Stanton College Prep (Newsweek #2) to a district championship, but because there's no tradition, the kids are just pulled too thin to do other tourneys and the like. Three of my kids were on Duval's CAC team that went from terrible on Thursday to winning its semi room and being in 2nd plac...

New School Package
I've found NAQT's site, PACE's, and Questions Unlimited, but there doesn't seem to be a way to order PACE questions. Is there some central site (or even a big package like the other 2 have) where I can order questions from PACE?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Thanks!
known as "the Gordian knot" for reasons that will probably become obvious. I don't know how old it is, but it's no more than 7 years old (we didn't have it when I was a student on the team in 2000), and gets yanked off of the table at least once a week. I can definitely agree about the kn...

Re: Thanks!
First off, welcome to the board, and welcome back to the quiz bowl world! Which school in Florida are you with? I ask just because several of us will certainly be interested to follow along next year and thereafter. I will be teaching at Episcopal High School in Jacksonville next year. As far as I ...

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I remember using the QuikPro when I was in HS, and I remember how easily we often broke them and had to fix it. I'm going to have the person who is already there see if we can afford to get the Zeecraft buzzers. I've worked with those a lot with my CAC team, and I...

Starting a new team
I am a teacher who is going to a new school in NE Florida next year, with a very new quiz bowl team. They only currently compete in the local competition, a College Bowl-style setup with 4 on 4 in 2-10 minute rounds and a 2 minute lightning round. They don't have buzzers, so I want to get a good set...
