Are you referring to questions/answers from NAQT set IS-51? I hope not, since that set is going to be used at a number of state championships that have not happened yet.

Great tournament overall. The "real-time" Swiss pairing seemed to work as advertised. Highly recommended to all teams that can make it next year.

I think the best way to do it would be to poll coaches who have teams that compete a great deal in a given region (or that compete all over the place). They would have a good idea of the relative strengths of teams in their geographic area. Mr. Barry from Brookwood would probably be an excellent cho...

Dorman gets that respect because they have earned it. They are one of an elite group of teams that has dominated both in the southeast and nationally over the past few years (along with Brookwood, Dunbar, and Walton). What makes the top programs so good year after year? Most of them are large school...

Coaches could also include a list of tournaments in which their team has competed. Most TD's could make a reasonable guess of team strength based on record and tournament participation. The problem will be in placing teams that haven't competed much (if at all) in a given season. It will also be har...

Your team was at a great tournament and matches were available with excellent questions and good competition and your players didn't want to play? I don't get it. Isn't that what every quiz-bowler longs for? Maybe they were sick that day. :-) We're signed up for both the Savannah Country Day and TJ ...

playoff round robin

There was a 6-team playoff round robin at Northwestern this year and it was great. It allows for a team to have an off round in the playoffs yet still have a shot at winning. There were 3 teams (St. Andrew's, New Trier A, and Stevenson A) that had a 4-1 record in the playoff round robin, so the winn...

With regards to negs, I don't think a loss of 5 points is really that big of a deal. The real punishment that comes as a result of an early and incorrect buzz is that the other team will get to hear the entire tossup with no pressure. Our motto: If you're not negging then you're not trying. :-) I do...

I'm not really concerned about the bonus bouncebacks. I'm fine with them as it can often serve to keep both teams engaged during the matches (especially blowouts). I do wish SCD would use the powers and negs; they make tossups more exciting in my opinion. I was told by the TD that they would only be...

We (St. Andrew's from MS) are bringing 2 teams.

I do wish the format was going to be more NAQT-like (since they are using NAQT questions), but it should be fun anyway. Looks to be a really strong field.

I have split off the discussion of bouncebacks and placed it in the Theory section. -- Mod

3. Stevenson A (IL)
4. Culver Academy A (IN)

I can't imagine that anyone other than GS, TJ, or Dorman could win, although I might should include St. John's.

We played GS-A a few weeks back in the 1st round of the playoffs in the TJ tournament and they are INCREDIBLE.
