I think the best way to do it would be to poll coaches who have teams that compete a great deal in a given region (or that compete all over the place). They would have a good idea of the relative strengths of teams in their geographic area. Mr. Barry from Brookwood would probably be an excellent cho...

Dorman gets that respect because they have earned it. They are one of an elite group of teams that has dominated both in the southeast and nationally over the past few years (along with Brookwood, Dunbar, and Walton). What makes the top programs so good year after year? Most of them are large school...

Coaches could also include a list of tournaments in which their team has competed. Most TD's could make a reasonable guess of team strength based on record and tournament participation. The problem will be in placing teams that haven't competed much (if at all) in a given season. It will also be har...

Your team was at a great tournament and matches were available with excellent questions and good competition and your players didn't want to play? I don't get it. Isn't that what every quiz-bowler longs for? Maybe they were sick that day. :-) We're signed up for both the Savannah Country Day and TJ ...

playoff round robin
There was a 6-team playoff round robin at Northwestern this year and it was great. It allows for a team to have an off round in the playoffs yet still have a shot at winning. There were 3 teams (St. Andrew's, New Trier A, and Stevenson A) that had a 4-1 record in the playoff round robin, so the winn...

With regards to negs, I don't think a loss of 5 points is really that big of a deal. The real punishment that comes as a result of an early and incorrect buzz is that the other team will get to hear the entire tossup with no pressure. Our motto: If you're not negging then you're not trying. :-) I do...

I'm not really concerned about the bonus bouncebacks. I'm fine with them as it can often serve to keep both teams engaged during the matches (especially blowouts). I do wish SCD would use the powers and negs; they make tossups more exciting in my opinion. I was told by the TD that they would only be...

Why didn't more Illinois teams show up for the NAQT tournament at Northwestern? Just curious.

I think a link to the stats will eventually be posted at the NW site:

The stats from last year's tournament are there.

Results???
Does anyone know who won the EH tournament? We lost to Milton in the prelims (they were very good) and to Walton in the round of 16 (they were awesome). It seemed to be quite a strong field overall.

Is there any room left in the field? We just found out that a number of our players who were scheduled to go to a speech and debate tournament at Wake Forest this weekend are going to be staying home due to weather concerns, so we might be able to get organized and bring a team. Please let me know A...

I'm sorry that our 2 teams (St. Andrew's) did not show up for the consolation rounds. The reality is that our players were exhausted and really wanted to sleep in. I would like to commend the PACE staff on an excellent tournament. Although the matches seem a bit long, especially if you're used to th...

Hey Golden Tiger 86, You might also contact Joey Odom when you get to Ole Miss. He's a freshman in the Honors College at the moment. He was the captain of our team last year (St. Andrew's). I'm sure he'd love to help start a program there. He's the best math player I've ever seen. He's good at other...

qbwizard, I agree with many of your points, although I don't believe that I bullied him at any point. I simply answered his accusations, although the sarcastic comments in my last response to bimmerman were out of line. Also, just to be clear, I never threatened to "tell on him". I simply ...

This is very interesting. I am the coach of which you speak. Let me address your concerns. 1. The reader in question has been a moderator at UTC for years. He has a tremendous amount of experience. Bimmerman,
What school do you play for? What tournament are you referring to where you had an issue with the SA coach?

Sorry if my last post was a little confusing. I was getting Caddo and Cutter mixed up a bit. Caddo has the boastful guy (about NAQT); Cutter has the 58-3 record. I'm still interested in Cutter's season, as 58-3 is very impressive. I'm also interested in Caddo's season. What "big name" team...

Wow, 58-3 is an impressive record regardless of where/who you play. Who did the three losses come against? Also, what teams have you played from Texas? Have you encountered St. John's or Bellaire this year? If you remember the last WOHSQB poll, do you have wins over any of those teams? How has your ...

Has your team played in any tournaments outside of LA this year? If so, how did you fare? Winning it all in Myrtle Beach will be quite a task, especially if you don't have alot of NAQT match experience against really strong teams. I think Cookeville will be the team to beat if they are at full stren...
