Re: Kentucky '07-'08

After viewing the results of this year's Governor's Cup testing, I'd like to throw an idea around: cumulative scores. In short, instead of having the state finals test determine everything, would it perhaps be a better idea to incorporate the district and regional exams too? Maybe .2, .3, .5 weight?...

Re: Kentucky '07-'08

Danville shut them out 42-0 during the first half of their preliminary match at regionals.

By the way, the SS question about Afarensis is crap, because it definitely had "species" in the question and Afarensis is a genus. That made me mad, particularly because I would've otherwise gotten first (1st and 2nd were a tie, and I was one point back). Papa, isn't Australopithecus the ...

I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, but the QR questions were a pleasant surprise. Short yet precise. Sort of arcane, but not ridiculously so. And best of all, not particularly misleading. On an additional and unrelated note, I believe Kentuckians should view the District scores for Dunbar. Ver...

It appears that Russell defeated Brookwood at Dorman. Looks like Knupp has pulled his team into a surprisingly steep recovery.

Well honestly, the questions at Fleming were a bit wacky. There was an inordinately large amount of spelling, grammar, and middle-school level science and math. For instance, one question basically asked, "the asteroid belt is located Mars and what other planet?." History was really the on...

Does Papa not consider winning 55-17 to be "smashing" the other team?

Final Match

Anybody know the final dunbar-ballard score? I was unaware that Ballard was this good this year.

Vandy

From the results of the Vandy tournament, especially the morning rounds, it seems that the entire state of Kentucky is having a particularly down year. I believe that Dunbar was the only team in the elite eight, and from my last count, only Dunbar, Danville, and Johnson were in the top sixteen. Espe...

I was very impressed by your a/h person so I'm going to guess that he's one of your top 5. Just for curiosity's sake, what was the other guy's subject?

Does anybody know if the DCC team at Russell is the actual starting line for this year? As for Danville, they were a two-man team because the third starter wasn't there. Also, based on the decent performance of Danville JV, it seems that the other two were random players that didn't make their JV fo...

Seems like JCC is still very strong this year despite loosing 3/4 of its starting 4. I was especially impressed by Brad, who managed to nearly pull his team to a win during the last pyramidal toss-ups.

Well, We all Know...

We all know that Panasonic rules and regulations are ridiculous and unfair. For instance, apparently if one team rings in but another team answers (with the correct answer, though incorrect might count too, haven't checked), the question is thrown out regardless of whether the first team had the cor...

My Bets

I'm betting on a strong Dunbar showing with Papa as a senior and a fairly high Danville, though math will be a problem. Johnson Central seems to be the most damaged, since virtually its entire starting line graduated (sorry Shawn). The real mystery teams are Pikeville, Manual, and Simon Kenton. Pike...

I agree, I don't mean to offend anybody, but I think those two teams would have given Manual and Daviess a run for their money.

Cepheid

Papa- I believe you misunderstood my point. The debate is not between "Cepheid" and "Cepheid Variable," but rather between "Cepheid" and "Variable Star." I agree that the former two are equivalent, but the latter two are not, especially since the question stat...

Momentum Cepheid and Nova

I read those two inquiries about momentum and cepheid variables, and I must say, I'm not very impressed. Momentum is equal to inertia times velocity. Therefore, they cannot be equivalent, as velocity may differ. Cepheids always work in exact cycles. Variable stars do not have to. Novas are most like...
