Re: Minnesota '09-'10
I should have prefaced my earlier post -- the reason I would like questions is because I will not be in MN this weekend. Which stinks, I would have loved to have gone to the Armstrong tourney this weekend.

I wanted to remind you of Armstrong's pop culture tournament on 2/27/10. The original announcement is above in this forum. Matt and anyone else reading this: I totally wish I could come out to join the fun this weekend. Thank you for keeping a pop culture tourney alive in the Twin Cities. EPIC was ...

Re: Minnesota '09-'10
As far as any one of us knows, there is no reason for this not to happen. There are at least 2-3 free Saturdays in February that can be used for playoffs. That said, I think that contacting the MNHSQB Board of Directors about this before they start planning next years' games would be a good idea. T...

Re: Minnesota '08-'09
Quizbowl was brought to Minnesota by Jan Baker, who used to coach Chaska. Why it's so popular in the outstate areas is a mystery. That's part true. Not sure how reliable the info but here's a wikipedia link about Knowledge Bowl: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knowledge_Bowl KB actually started up in ...

Sad news to pass along to everyone who has been part of Minnesota Quiz Bowl over the years. Wenzel Ruhmann, who has served as the Apple Valley coach for some time, passed away unexpectedly last week. Wenzel was an extremely popular coach and will be missed deeply by the QB community here. For those ...

As for Sam Peterson being the next me, he will easily be better than I was in high school barring something unforeseen, and there’s a very strong chance he is better than I was in high school now, but it is somewhat hard to compare players several years apart. A better comparison would be the next ...

I guess this is safe to leak... As of yet, no replacement has been named. This means that EPHS's Activities Departm...

Eden Prairie qualified 2 for the playoffs -- A came in at 7-3, a surprising loss to a good Norcross team, a loss to TJ A (I think they had 11 powers) and then a close loss to DCC. B came in at 6-4... won three close matches after starting 3-4 to make it in. 2 of the first three losses were in overti...

I'd like to REALLY pump up the final MN NAQT tournament of the year - May 17th at Robbinsdale Armstrong. I will say this, you are writing for a certain audience here, and it's one where adults (and possibly parents) are going to be monitoring kids in a school sanctioned environment. Score of the final match: 685-225 Certainly credit needs to be given to Orono -- they are a very good team, coached very well, and it wasn't THAT surprising to see them do well. Making questions be Minnesota Bowl (a problem that's come up in some recent NAQT sets, but we'll discuss that later) is what we're avoiding this go-around because regardless of who plays the packets, it's lame to have answers that you know only you can answer because Dino Ciccarelli used to live in...
