Re: Chicago Open Trash 2018 (July 22, 2018)
Do three of the remaining free agents want to form a team? I'm not overly concerned about finding folks with complementary skill sets at this point. I just want to make sure I get to play. Message me. Once I get three responses I'll register our team. Edit: Asher and I have teamed up. We are still l...

Re: ACRONYM 11 @ U of MN - 2/18/18 (Open Event)
I guess I'll start early. Anybody need a extra player? At ACRONYM 10, as a one person team, I handed the eventual winners of the tournament their only loss of the day. The rest of my day didn't go too well, but it's a fun little story. Playing quiz bowl alone is better than not playing quiz bowl at ...

Re: ACRONYM X Open Mirror @ CCCT - 2/25/17
I'd like to play this tournament, but I don't really have any interest in playing it solo again this year. If anyone is looking for an extra player or would like to form a team, please let me know. Also, can I recommend updating the title of this thread to indicate the tournament is taking place in ...

Re: ANNOUNCEMENT: Chicago Open 2011 (July 30, 2011)
I will be playing COLT but not CO, so would be willing to moderate if needed. Though I will emphasize the "if needed" part since I wouldn't say I'm the best of moderators, but I do have experience and tend to know how to pronounce words, especially if given time to review the questions. --...

I'll throw my hat into the ring. I'll play with anyone who will take me.
Also, I'd be willing to moderate CO if needed since I have no intention of embarrassing myself by playing in that tournament. Not sure if that would give me a discount here, but also not really worried about it either way.

Re: Lames In Modern Tournaments
To me lames are just a fun gimmick. The strategy aspect of lames isn't very strong. I'm sure everyone who has played a handful trash tournaments has a story about winning a match because they lamed a crappy bonus late in the game and 30'd their new bonus, but more often than not lames either backfir...

I'd be interested in participating in this as either a team or free agent, whatever works, assuming it is an open tournament. St. Thomas would be preferable, but I would be willing to make the trip to Morris.

I'm getting into this a little late, but anyway... As most everyone has said this was a very good tournament. Kilby and everyone else did a great job. I quickly want to go back to the topic about RC Cola overlap. I thought most of this was pretty innocent, though there was a bonus about the Rockets'...

This may be a stupid idea but I thought I would throw it out there. What if instead of charging one amount per team no matter how many people are on that team you instead you took that amount divided by four and multiplied by the number of people on the team. One big downside I could see to this is ...

I'm a big fan of lames and claims, though one gimmick I like better, which I've only seen once or twice, is the punt. It's similar to the screw. The power cord shoul...

I think ChrisK is onto something. I suppose that I don't think the correlation between school size and team strength is anywhere near as strong as is often supposed.
