Re: Georgia 2008-2009
Emory University is rebuilding their academic team for the Spring Season. We might consider hosting a small high school tournament during the spring or possibly next fall. If we were to host a tournament, which schools would be interested in attending and what weekend would be best for you? Thank yo...

In single A, Rabun-Gap Nacoochee School could be the best team in Rabun County. I believe you guys are undefeated right? Look forward to seeing how you guys do over the next few years. I believe Brookwood will be the strongest program in Georgia this year without question. They have two very...

Re: Georgia 2007-2008
I agree, Mr. Barry, that the questions were overall of a good quality, but some things stuck out as problems. One such problem that bugged me was non-unique lead-ins. These included "One of the first American writers to make a living from writing", "One of Shakespeare's first comedie...

Re: Georgia Tech high school tournament 3/15/08
Even if it isn't the weekend of the 22nd, there are still weekends during April and etc that the tournament can potentially be rescheduled. Granted, I do not know about any of GT's events or conflicts, but considering the last minute cancellation of this tournament, an attempt to reschedule would un...

Probably most private christian schools, but I'm guessing there are plenty of public schools that have no problem with it. It is after all Easter Sunday and not Easter Weekend.

Re: Georgia Tech high school tournament 3/15/08
Since the tournament was canceled on such short notice, I'm assuming that you guys still have all the questions and etc that was prepared for the tournament. In that case, would it be possible to simply reschedule the tournament to be held this coming weekend on the 22nd? The field was originally pr...

Re: Georgia 2007-2008
Um yea, let's not turn Georgia's Comparison thread into a discussion about Dorman again. I think once was enough. After 4 preliminary matches tonight, three teams went undefeated. Top team that is not undefeated is Walton. Ranked in order of point average, they are: 1. Norcross (4-0) 305 ppg 2. Broo...

Re: Georgia 2007-2008
anyone else getting really excited about State? I think Georgia is unique in having 4 teams ranked in the top 25 with
1. Chattahoochee -16
2. Brookwood -22
3. Walton -23
4. Norcross -25
Just thought that was interesting.

Re: High Q
WSB-TV does not care enough to conduct any reforms regarding High-Q. All that matters is that the station can claim they "care" for the education system in Georgia by doing something like hosting an academic tournament that offers a scholarship. By doing this, they are obviously doing thei...

Re: Georgia 2007-2008
Did anyone else notice that for the JV Division at least, the questions seemed very difficult? In our semifinal match against Dorman, 9 of the tossups went unanswered. That really shouldn't happen for two of the top 4 teams at a tournament. The packets varied in difficulty as well, because in our m...

Re: Georgia 2007-2008
Alpharetta's ability to upset at State was proven today when they beat Norcross 180-230. This round was interesting in that Alpharetta scored probably twice as many tossups as Norcross, but couldn't covert bonuses to secure a lead until the last two questions. We scored only 6 toss ups total. They d...

If you are playing in a prelim match at State you know that before the round begins the second half is more crucial that the first half. That means that a more knowledgeable team, as opposed to a faster team, should be rewarded by their superior bonus conversion and deeper subject knowledge regardl...

So at State last year, the first half didn't have bonuses? Was there a reason why they did that? my wild guess is that Mr. Barry wanted to try to simulate a 4 quarters tournament instead of the reviled 20TU/Bonus. The 20 TU/bonus rounds is superior to the 1/2 bonus rounds they use at State....
