Re: Generalist
1) Protobowl. There are private and public servers for you to practice on. It doesn't always give the best questions, but playing it a lot for maybe 3 months will get you accustomed to the Canon. QBReader is better. I also sometimes feel like the two don't help since rereading it helps stamp it out...

Re: Clock Stalling at Nationals
Wow I haven't been here in a while But there is nothing wrong with clock stalling or rushing, at least I don't see. Even my coach sometimes practices "chase-downs", where in 60 seconds, my team and I have to get 60 points to match or beat the other team, since we start down 60. Sometimes w...

Re: Clock Stalling at Nationals
Well it really depends. Once, at a state tournament, my team stalled the bonus in a tight match with like 30 seconds left. If you need more time, you could interrupt or skip a bonus if you know you are not going to get it.

I would definitely suggest Ankis. I also have a geography game on my phone that helps with capitals, border outline, location, etc. For science, try researching specific topics (earth science, quantum physics, etc.) and also things like reading science books gradually helps you.

A new quiz bowl trainer
Protobowl has issues.
QBReader isn't very good.
And I need a reliable source where I can study efficiently. Do you guys have any ideas?

Re: Improving Power Percentage
As Josh said, quiz bowl is not simply about power percentages, but points and your team. I also was this way, but I started to realize that bonuses was something they could not tag someone to, and that my team is really good and sometimes the teams I play are really good, so powers and power percent...

Try seeing summaries of some religions, like Bible or Koran (or Qu'ran), that might help. Also I consider searching up important religious figures. The religion's gods come up frequently, too.

MS Protobowl isn't the best, since its very low question count. But QBReader is also useful. Anki is also extremely useful. I deeply recommend it.

I feel like QuizDB should not have been retired. If it was a lack of money, maybe a GoFundMe would help? At least we have aseemsDB.

The QBC Packet [read]
What if people on the Quizbowl Resource Center (QBC) made a packet on this topic, with questions given by people?
Credit will be given with usernames. Maybe a private forum can be made to make these and they could be played on a tournament. I don't wanna get ahead of myself, though.

Ah, the controversial topic about Protobowl. The single most disgraced website, while to some, the most cherished. The website that NAQT, IAC, PACE, and others have decided that you should not use, despite a staple of the quiz bowl. But it has alternatives. And yet the alternatives are not perfect, ...

QuizDB, unlike Protobowl, You Gotta Know, and QBReader, is not limited. Despite not updated for a couple years, it does provide a sturdy database that is far superior than the others. The bad thing is that with such a large system, it is not very specific. But still, if you 100% memorized ALL of Qui...

Re: A New Protobowl
There should be an anti-cheating system in order to maintain competitive integrity. Such a system could be implemented using some kind of kernel mode driver players must install in order to compete against other players. I am tired of losing against players like Sinecio in these online tournaments....

By audio, I also mean audio chat, like on protobowl. Also, multiplayer adds a demographic unlike anything else, with its advanced chat system and teams. Something else that is bad with protobowl is that powers are 20's, not 15's. And points reset ALL THE TIME, so a stat page would help a lot. Live e...

Re: QB classification test?
I actually get what Elliot is doing. He's trying to create a system similar to a Myers-Briggs type indicator to make a general, coded picture of a Quizbowler that, in theory, would tell someone what they need to know about a player very quickly (say, while you're scouting your opponents at Nats). L...

A New Protobowl
To all quiz bowlers,
I propose a new protobowl, called BuzzUp.
This will have a interface with stats, rooms, leaderboards, and others. Also, moderation similar to protobowl that actually works and new questions.
Other ideas are greatly accepted.

Re: On Buzzer Techniques
Some good buzzing techniques, as said before by a fellow collaborator, is buzzing mid-word. Also, something a lot of players I know struggle with is buzzer confidence. Powers and tens with a couple negs here and there are ok, but not buzzing at all is not. Remember the 80% rule, where if you are 80%...

Re: Is science cardable?
In my opinion, science is cardable but shouldn't. You should use the tree method. You study one part of science thoroughly and read articles and books, and watch videos on it. I'm working on quantum physics, and my coach told me to make a packet about quantum physics instead of just making cards. If...
