SC State NAQT Tournament

Is there going to be a SC State NAQT tournament this year? I heard something about there being one at USC April 2nd but so far I haven't heard anything about it.

So Milton beat Dorman in a preliminary match...was Milton the fourth seed just because of a low point total?

Congratulations to Brookwood!

Two points: Interested hosts had to contact by July 15th, and it is now December 8th. You'd think they could announce it by now. Why do they announce the site of the national college tournament a year in advance but the high school tournament less than six months in advance? Do colleges have more re...

At Walton Irmo beat James Island, Ezell-Harding, and Brookwood before losing to Dorman in the finals. We chose to go to Princeton instead of Brookwood (awesome two days in New York City--we saw rent) and we only lost to TJ A...we led after 5 questions too! It's sad that I'm proud to have at least be...

I've applied to MIT (Early Action), Georgia Tech, USC Honors, and Furman and I'm still working on my application to Davidson.

I'm planning on studying chemistry but I'm becoming torn between chemistry and something along the grounds of biomedical engineering or even just biochemistry.

How much editing was done to the NAQT packets used at the Princeton Tournament? Normally we would expect there to be a lot of regional questions at a tournament with house questions but not if it was regular NAQT questions. Just wondering either way because we still got to have extra bragging rights...

In regard to the quiz bowl canon, I'm not arguing that random poetry is considered more relevant that modern music lyrics to artist, I'm just trying to point out how when looked at with any type of practicality, the subject matter is arbitrarily chosen. People get mad when something is asked about r...

I find it interesting that it is not implausible for teams to have an issue with a lyrics to rapper worksheet (Irmo only got 5 of the 10 correctly) but most teams would not complain about a worksheet like the one in the championship round, identifying poems by their 13th line (Irmo got one, a sad sa...

Great point Matt, I feel you really countered my argument. Thanks for the insight. I think there is a misconception with some people that guessing requires no intelligence, or at least not an exceptional level of intelligence. The point I was trying to make was not that the ability to guess supersed...

I don't see how that team's anger is justified. Isn't the ability to guess just as important as knowledge. Not to make them sound wholly separate since they obviously go hand in hand in the context of competitive quiz bowl. I see how one could make the argument for the burden of knowledge in not jum...

Here's an idea that was somewhat inspired by BCS even though I'm sure it would be more work. What if you were to have a poll by the panel, and then also a poll by accepting ballots by everyone...and you average the results of the two polls to get the rankings? Does that seem too stupid?

One tournament not really mentioned often is the tournament at Savannah Country Day School. It's not as big as Dorman or Brookwood but it is consistently good and well run. We always stay at a nice Hampton Inn on the riverfront so that might add to my opinion! Anyone else agree?

Our record is 101-33...which is not bad since our team is entirely comprised of sophomores and freshmen, except for a former team member who is a senior and played at two tournaments at the very beginning of the year...but thank goodness he left 'cause he was annoying
