Re: Kentucky 09-10

Sandy: thanks for the classy post. Let's move forward.
Nick: The Board discussed this at its retreat Monday. Odds are very good JV Challenge will have a state-level second competition. Probably not this year, but almost certainly next. You're right there definitely is a gap in the market.

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Thanks Greg. The writing guidelines we developed over the winter address these very issues.

Re: Kentucky 09-10

Everything hinges on having writers who either (a) know our format and understand the concept of multiple clues in descending order of difficulty or (b) know the concept of multiple clues in descending order of difficulty and can follow the format instructions we provide.

Re: Kentucky 09-10

According to some of the staff at KAAC, Quick Recall will NOT become pyramidal. Hey folks. To clear up any uncertainty, I'd like to make it clear that KAAC recognizes the value of multiple clues in descending order of difficulty. I'll avoid using the P-word, and another debate, out of deference to ...

Great--if PACE wants to put out a general announcement, that's fine with us. Like I said, I'd just need a head count.

Re: Call for workshop proposals: Bootcamp 2008 (8/1 to 8/3)

David,

Friday June 6, 9:30 AM, at the Holiday Inn-North in Lexington.

I meant to tell Dr. Chuck this: we'd more than welcome folks from other states, but they'd need to give us advance notice so we could get a lunch count.

Re: Kentucky '07-'08

Aaron,

As soon as the photographer gets the CD full of pics mailed to me, I post them in a free photo album online. Usually takes a couple days.

Congratulations on a great year.

I'm surprised Apollo went to this crap, considering they've attended PACE, NAQT, and numerous good invitational tournaments over the years. We saw them at Vandy in the fall, actually. Without insinuating anything as to their motives, I do know Apollo's coach pretty well and he absolutely loves to t...

In 2006, Kentucky had over 10,000 4th and 5th graders representing 510 Elementary schools taking part in Governor's Cup. Our quiz bowl competition is only one of eight events, however; about 4000 or so took part in Quick Recall. They play under the same rules as the middle and high school levels, bu...

I probably should have pointed out in my original post that we are still awaiting official word from NAQT regarding their acceptance of our Governor's Cup state champion team. One other thing we're looking at is to find a way to increase the number of matches teams get at State. What we're consideri...

Now that the cat's out of the bag, might as well jump in. We are considering many of the ideas you guys have thrown out there. Two things we know at this point: (1) there will be a nomination process, and (2) there will not be any geographic mandates. We're looking at how other states select their t...

John: Sprry to hear about this, you guys have a great quiz bowl program and hope it isn't jeopardized too much by this decision. Nah, David, it really only affects sports. The way I look at it, I'd welcome a problem like this. Should the day come when there are front page articles being written abo...

Hot topic this winter in Kentucky. The HS athletic coaches voted overwhelmingly last fall to create separate public and private athletic championships, something the organizing body, KHSAA, wouldn't go for. KHSAA ended up nibbling around the edges of the issue by establishing feeder lines and territ...
