Re: ARCADIA General Discussion
I really appreciated the freshness of ARCADIA—even when tackling well-trod areas it did a good job of bringing in new approaches, new cuts, and the conscious effort to bring in the work of people who are typically underrepresented in quizbowl and in the broader sense of the "canon." The bo...

Re: 2021 ACF Winter - Specific Question Discussion
I really liked the set overall! This was a great first collegiate in-person playing experience for me. A few questions stood out to me: The tossup on the Alps in what I believe was Editors 1 was for me the most unfortunate/annoying tossup of the set to play. The tossup used the indicator "this ...

In case you need names to think about and fill out your ballots, here are some names: Gus Carvell , RM. He might not make your overall (though there is certainly an argument for him), but Gus should without question make your fine arts ballots. At the DMV mirror of STASH, which was in December (!!),...

RAFT III: Call For Writers and Preliminary Announcement
The third edition of the Regular Academic Fall Tournament (RAFT III), a regular difficulty high school set, is looking for writers. *sigh* Caleb, we (your teammates) get that you had a bad performance. It happens, we're fine with it. Re: Fall Online Middle School Tournament [RAFT II]
So, this tournament happened on Saturday. With the exception of a minor mishap with rosters/scoresheets right before the tournament that caused us to start ~4-5 minutes after 10, the tournament ran fairly smoothly. Depending on the bracket, the tournament ended between 6:15 and 6:45, which was exact...

The initial field is now full. The Tyrean purple dye tossup used "this object" as an indicator, which frustrated me, as it dissuaded me from buzzing in an area where I have a fair amount of knowledge just by virtue of having a misleading indicator, even though I knew the clues that were being read.

There is an upside to having more sets--it makes it easier to find a set for a tournament. Also, if you get a bad report of a set from an early site, then you have options to switch to. The downside of people not getting rich from quizbowl is one of the oldest downsides in quizbowl. I guess I just ...

I don’t remember much from this set, but one thing is the “Tasmania” tossup, very clearly asking for “this island,” that prompted on Australia. Those are distinct islands, and though they are part of the same country, it shouldn’t be promptable. Overall, though, I thought this set was pretty good.
