Re: More Negs Than Correct Answers
*sigh* Caleb, we (your teammates) get that you had a bad performance. It happens, we're fine with it. If you don't want it to happen again, the easiest solution is to study more instead of fishing for reassurance/sympathy from us and from the forum-frequenting quizbowl public. You're not the first p...

Re: Fall Online Middle School Tournament [RAFT II]
So, this tournament happened on Saturday. With the exception of a minor mishap with rosters/scoresheets right before the tournament that caused us to start ~4-5 minutes after 10, the tournament ran fairly smoothly. Depending on the bracket, the tournament ended between 6:15 and 6:45, which was exact...

Re: Fall Online Middle School Tournament [RAFT II]
I am looking for staffers for this tournament. So far we have about 10-12, which is fine, but I'd prefer to have more to run rooms more efficiently. If people are willing to staff the full tournament this Saturday [November 7th], please contact me at [email protected].com or on Discord at buffaloz...

Re: Fall Online Middle School Tournament [RAFT II]
The initial field is now full. We may expand the field if we get enough staff, however, I would prefer to keep this tournament to fewer than 10 rounds, which becomes logistically very difficult if we have more than 18 teams. Currently, we have 14 staffers signed up. I would like to have two staffer...

Tossup 17 of packet A describes Federico García Lorca as a "Golden age author." Wikipedia describes the Golden Age as taking place from ~1492-1681. García Lorca was born in 1898. I originally clued Fuenteovejuna and Life Is a Dream as the first two sentences of this tossup, respectively, ...

I'd like to echo Caleb's, Lyra's, Vishwa's frustrations about Angikar—this may be read as being angry/whatever about the Duke House team beating us, fine, but that's not what this is. After getting a little under 2 p/g in prelim games 1-4, he put up 8 against us in round 5. I understand that players...

I’d like to give some of my thoughts about the DMV circuit next year: National Contenders TJ A I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that TJ will be the #1 team in the country (especially on mACF), given that they have an argument to having the best science and literature coverage in the country. TJ’...

Re: On the Abundance of High School Sets During the Pandemic [And Its Problems]
There is an upside to having more sets--it makes it easier to find a set for a tournament. Also, if you get a bad report of a set from an early site, then you have options to switch to. The downside of people not getting rich from quizbowl is one of the oldest downsides in quizbowl. I guess I just ...

Not My Job: A Packet
After my last Laws and Treaties packet, I decided to write another packet. I put this together over the weekend, leading to what Matthew Siff called "bad questions that must have been enjoyable to write, and will be fun for someone who hears them." [I'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist]...

On the Abundance of High School Sets During the Pandemic [And Its Problems]
No doubt due in part to the pandemic, a series of new sets intended for the high school difficulty [along with returns of older sets, including Harvard Fall and RAFT II], both announced and unannounced, have been cropping up. While I fully support the idea of increasing the amount of people involved...

Laws and Treaties: A Vanity Packet
Hello all! For about two and a half months now, I have been working on a "Laws and Treaties" packet. This is a very loose theme, and answerlines will consist of political documents, speeches, law codes, and ideologies, in addition to specific laws and treaties. This is a 21/21 powermarked ...
