Re: Concern for HS Regs+ Sets this Season

I wish the best of luck to the SITH team as well. Hello all, I figured with the mention of SITH I could mention a few things. First off, thank you Ganon for bringing up this point. I don't check or post on the forums much and all of what you have been saying has been a concern of mine for a while n...

Re: HSNCT Side Event: Captivating Literature Excluding All Novels (CLEAN)

Update on CLEAN: In light of the fact that side events must not interfere with scrimmages, the first 2 rounds of CLEAN are planned for Friday 5/26, at 9PM. We hope these two rounds take 30-40 minutes to ensure players can get sleep. The rest of the rounds are planned to take place Saturday, 5/27, af...

HSNCT Side Event: Captivating Literature Excluding All Novels (CLEAN)

Hello everyone! I am pleased to announce that Omkar Marathe and I (Danny Peelen) are planning to host an HSNCT side event, Captivating Literature Excluding All Novels, abbreviated CLEAN, on May 26th. We are working out details of the event itself, but the plan is to have 4 or 5 packets ready. As the...

Re: 2022-23 High School Midseason Team Poll

Hello all, I will kick things off with a brief rundown of teams you must consider. Considering I have made very uninformed poll submissions in the past, I aim to list teams that should not be missed whatsoever in your poll. Detroit Country Day School - These guys have been playing together as long a...

Re: 2020-21 Groger Ranks Player Poll

While we are ruthlessly shilling players, I figure I might as well put a good word in for a couple people. As a PA player, I think it's clear I'm going to mention Anish Kodali and Az Faiz . Albert & Arthur already said good things about either or both of them, all of which I agree with. Both of ...

Re: DITCH 2020 (A Packet about Hungary)

WOW! DITCH actually had a very good turnout, much better than I would've ever expected. Thank to all who came out, this really meant a lot to me saying it was my first complete set ever. If there was any tips anyone had to either improve my packet, either content-wise or just wording, or to improve ...

May I ask why you have being waiting 15 years for this? Hope to see you at the reading!

Ok guys! Sorry for it kind of being late but I’m seeing some boomers showing interest in this packet so I’m going to read this in the main quiz bowl discord now.

Remember to drink water :))
Doesn't it make more thematic sense for players to have a shot of Unicum before playing?
Real Hungarians drink Palinka or Soproni beer :))

...and real soccer fans Drinkwater as Danny does!

DITCH 2020 (A Packet about Hungary)

Hello all! These past days I have composed a set of 20 tossups all about anything related to Hungary with some editing help from my homies Ananya Tadigadapa, Anish Kodali, and Chris Goodrich. I have named it DITCH (Danny's Incredibly Terrible Content about Hungary) since I am still a beginner in que...

Discord Links/Help

Hello everyone! I have been exploring the quiz bowl subreddit and forum for discords since I have seen a lot about that, especially on reddit. I have only been able to get into a Fine Arts one (I'm not a fine arts player though), but I was wondering if anyone could help me to find the (or a) general...

What do the <> mean?

As I've been reading quiz bowl packets, I've been noticing that some answer lines have the answer, and then next to it, there will be some name in between the <> symbol. I'm not sure what that is because I've seen some familiar names and I'm just curious what it means.

Re: How to build "stamina"

I'm a freshman currently and I've found it very beneficial to just be constantly thinking between matches, before and after matches and at lunches. I usually talk to my teammates about our performances and comments about it. This is interesting to me since my intuition would tell me that I should b...

Re: Getting "Real" Literature Knowledge

You seem to be in the same scenario as me. Honestly, memorizing clues and knowing as much as you can about books will not guarantee that you power the question, sometimes even if you've read the book. Truth be told is recognizing first-line clues isn't fully you're fault, you just aren't thinking ab...

Good Databases/Software?

Howdy guys! So I'm a freshman at the moment and as a quiz bowl player, I'm trying to just get better and familiarize myself with high school topics. I'm focusing on mostly A sets, but I'm also trying some regular sets. Personally, I do prefer databases and online sites to study. My main two sources ...

Re: Why don't we have 1/1 math?

I believe that math in the 20th-century quiz bowl was I bit too much. My quiz bowl coach was super good at math and he was OP because of it so I'm happy it's less now. But, I am like him in the sense that I power almost all computational math questions, but they never show up. I don't want it to sho...
