I wish I had some great advice I could share. I'm just thankful that Alabama has a well-organized quiz bowl organization run by a group of extremely dedicated and wonderful people. Having been in the roles of parent, coach, and TD this past season, there are a couple of things I'd like to add. 1) If you're a TD and state that you will send out trophies and/or prizes to the winning teams and individuals, this is something you should follow through on. Please consider only using tossups. On average, middle school students typically need to hear a larger fraction of a question that's written for high school level difficulty before they might know the answer. The tossups themselves tend to be longer as well. With bonus questions that are significant...

In hindsight, it seems like only tossups should have been used. We'll be hesitant to sign up for any future middle school tournaments that use high school level sets AND include bonuses.
