Re: CO Matchmaking
Sinecio Morales, Omkar Marathe, and I are looking for a Knower of the Sciences (esp. chem, phys, and/or CS) for our team. You should be fine with (a) helping us try to sneak our way into top bracket, (b) playing on a team of relatively youthful individuals. You won't need to write anything. It'll be...

packet 10 - maybe make clear that you need both "Spanish" and "Muslims" (by removing the space between their underlines) in the moriscos TU? When I opened Packet 10 to check this a few minutes ago, the underline was there in the question. I also had a "Note to moderator: pl...

Some notes I made during the tournament, unfortunately only focusing on negatives because I was very tired. Apologiesif anything in these notes has been fixed already and I'm just misremembering what I heard today. Hopefully they're still of use: packet 1: - on rereading, in the Dada TU, "Taube...

Re: 2023 Chicago Open - Specific Question Discussion
With the exception of "Marguerite" (which I stand by, both because it's in the title of an Arnold poem, and because I think it is only respectful to remember the actual names of the ""muses"" of notable male authors) I think this could have played better if it didn't g...

I edited the British and European literature for this set. Thank you to everyone who's given me feedback, positive or negative. This will be a bit of a long message. First, I'll apologize for my most glaring error—the packetization. Obviously, there are the things John pointed out, which would have ...

Re: Regarding BBB and Community Norms
P. S. Let's also remember that most bad quiz bowl tournaments (many far worse than BBB, which I gather for all its faults was at least pyramidal, of roughly appropriate difficulty, and guaranteed teams a fair number of games) are not run by students, but rather by adults, some of them with decades ...

Re: Greatest High School Quiz Bowl Players Ever Other Than Rohan Ganeshan
Rohan has definitely established himself among the HS greats, but I don't necessarily think that makes him the consensus greatest. In my mind, having done what he did as a junior (whereas Clark, Hari, me, etc. made similar runs only as seniors), Rohan is pretty clearly the best high school quizbowl...

Thank you to Matt Bollinger for, over the thirteen games of ACF Nationals we played together, continually reminding me, through his buzzes and bonus-pulls, how much more there is - no, how much more I have to read. It's never the most fun to play alongside someone who's just indubitably better than ...

Feels a bit weird that my opinions on this set seem to have been the opposite of everyone else, and it's possible that some of this is just the Online Quizbowl Effect, but anyway: I didn't have the greatest time playing this set. Enjoyed the quadratic reciprocity bonus a whole lot - maybe my favorite moment of the tournament was thirtying that off of stuff I did at a summer camp a couple of years ago. I'm not usually too big on "recite this equation" bonus parts but I think this one was especially well-executed.

Lambert was the biggest upset, and it definitely had both the element of both the other team negging a lot and also lucky content. Mostly I think it was a lot of luck, and of course BMB being an incredible player. I didn't consider this an upset in the moment, though it might have been - that ECHHS...

Re: We Need to Make Up Our Minds About Trash
I noticed a variation on this a lot in 2022 NASAT - clues in academic disciplines that I recognized clearly as inspired by something the writer saw on Twitter. I view this as a good thing, because it guarantees a point of entry for a somewhat obscure clue. There are two ways this was done, I think,...

Re: What is the ceiling of QuizDB's usefulness?
In my opinion, quizdb is the number one resource you should use while studying for quizbowl (at lower levels; at higher levels, I'd recommend aseemsdb instead). Something you should get into the habit of doing is: whenever you're reading a wikipedia article about something or in some other way learn...

Do they interact with multiple cultures in that way? Do they have close to the same amount of knowledge of the entire body of reasona...

This post is long overdue. I will preface this post by noting that, while it was written by me and me only, and no one else should be flamed for it, the sentiments in it are not at all unique to me. Someone who doesn't get nearly enough attention (overlooked region, not online, etc) is Sanjeev Uppaluri from Cambridge.
