IIRC, Charlie Steinhice of UTC ran these back in the day. Dunno if he invented it.He would tell you it's based on a game called K-Tell-Hell, the origins/details of which I am not sure of

I'm in pending availability of teammates. Is there a packet discount or does PBT not want our crappy southern packets?

Re: 2010 HSNCT discussion thread
I think NAQT does need to do something more formal with moderators, like maybe some kind of qualification process, or at least a formal training session on the Friday night. Forgive me from dragging this discussion away from anime, but this is a good idea. The Friday night scrimmage I thought was e...

Re: Early Bird/Southeastern @ Berry College -- 11/7/09
Shockingly in 2009, there are scanners that exist in your college, and the corresponding software that will allow you to scan to Microsoft Word. It still takes time, but just pointing out that there is another option. I'd never considered it. Not that I don't keep up with new technologies like the ...

Re: Early Bird/Southeastern @ Berry College -- 11/7/09
It's also just a show of good faith. Why hide the packets? Not to mention good community behavior. Is it good community behavior to insinuate that there's something to "hide" because the packets aren't online for whatever reason? I don't know why they haven't released the packets, maybe t...

Re: Early Bird/Southeastern @ Berry College -- 11/7/09
What would last year's set prove? Packet submission tournaments will differ depending on the question writing abilities of the teams submitting, and even if the same teams attend, the team composition will be different. The editor may be the same, but even an experienced tournament editor can only d...

Re: Great News! CBI "Susp"Ends!
As for the stiff-necked part, CBI was also extremely resistant to change. They seemed to have this deep-seated conviction that the way they did things was the only proper way, and that customers who complained about their policies could be safely ignored. The players were never their customers. The...

Re: Art Names
I'm going to repeat my assertion from the last time this was discussed that, for works that do not have author-granted titles, the moderator should always lean toward lenience, at least prompting and often accepting. Yes, reasonable variations on a non-authorial title (Arnolfini wedding/marriage/po...

Re: Art Names
Per this article (I know Wikipedia isn't always accurate) , we should accept Trimalchio after most plot clues, as a version called Trimalchio has been published . Since Trimalchio was published, shouldn't it be considered a separate work? After all, I've heard plenty of questions on Stephen Hero . ...

Re: Art Names
I'm all for alternate titles. I still have no idea what the actual title of that Watteau painting is. But if The Poet is an old, discarded title for The Thinker , and not an alternate title, then it shouldn't be accepted. Should we accept Trimalchio in West Egg for The Great Gatsby ? Heck, if someon...

I'm all for punishing plagiarism with Chuck Norris roundhouse kicks to the face, but it's probably more productive to contact the relevant players and coaches behind the scenes. Public call-outs of plagiarism will probably lead to more animosity, which is exactly what QB needs. And inevitably some T...

I have no problem with video game questions (even though I miss most of them) as long as they aren't all on current games and aren't too deep. As has been noted, games haven't penetrated as deep into the cuture as movies and tv. The one's I've heard to date have been pretty fair, with memorable ones...

We had numerous bragging rights and speed buzzes, but Al Przygocki was recognized for a combo, getting Stringfellow Hawke on a speed buzz when it went unanswered in all other rooms. Grrrr....still mad about this one. My own fault, of course, but I misheard the toss up and thought they were asking f...

Re: Southeast Tournaments: Fall 2006
At the moment, there are two tournaments scheduled in the southeast for fall of 2006. CotKU at UTC and ACF Fall at FSU. I want some more! Who wants to mirror the Early Fall Tournament? Or PARFAIT? Georgia Tech? USF? Anyone? We had actually discussed the possibility of USF mirroring EFT at our meeti...

packet trading for usf sun and fun
We have an academic tournament coming up on April 1 (yes, seriously) and we should have enough packets, but we're looking to trade packets for backups just in case. If you have an academic tournament not in the south east US in the next couple weeks and are interested in trading, please contact me a...
