Re: 2023 NAQT SCT New England @ Brown (2/4/23)

This tournament happened, to say the least. Congratulations to Harvard for clearing the DI field, and to Yale B, who defeated Williams A in a one-game final after the latter beat Yale C in a three-way tie for first in DII! A huge thanks to our staffers, without whom we could not have run the tournam...

Re: Where Are You Going Next Year? (Collegiate 2022)

I'm excited to announce that I will be going Brown University next year for my master's in CS.* I already go there, but I just wanted to put that out there for all the people wondering, "Where will Walter be for his senior year of his undergraduate degree and his masters degree? Will he make an...

After a fantastic finals sequence, Yale A has won the tournament! they also claim the UG title. Harvard gets second overall. Second place UG goes to MIT B; first and second DII go to Columbia C and Brown respectively. Thanks to staffers for staffing and players for playing! stats are at https://hsqu...

HARI @ Brown (11/20/21)

Brown Quizbowl is happy to announce the Northeast mirror of HARI (Hari's Academic Regular(-minus) Invitational) on Saturday, November 20th, 2021. Re: Transgressing the Boundaries: Towards a Transformative Way to Study Quizbowl

Another method of studying I have experienced success with is Clue Time. In a Discord voice call, one person shares their screen, but scrolls down through the questions at reading speed one line at a time. On tossups, "collaboration" is done by people buzzing in and explaining their though...

Re: [TW: Sexual Harassment] Harassment in the THAT Online Quizbowl Discord

I propose that if such a clause is not present already, add a clause explicitly involving disciplinary action (eg being kicked from the team/banned from participating in team activities) for misconduct like harassment to club constitutions so that club leadership can take action.

Re: College Nationals and Its Problems

It’s important for there to be a nationals or a championship or something to look forward to at the culmination of the season, or else there’s no real competitive motivation behind studying and going to regular season tournaments. Right now, due to the difficulty of the questions, the “peak” of the...

Packet 8 The Ives and RUR tossups seemed a bit hard for the difficulty this set was aiming for (though I'd like to be proven wrong about the difficulty about those tossups). I wrote the Ives tu; I saw that Ives has definitely been tossed up at around this difficulty before (MBAT, Prison Bowl 2017, ...

The first line of the Pearl River tossup (packet 8, tossup 1) is inaccurate. The Statue of the Five Rams in Guangzhou is found in Yuexiu Park, which is not in the Temple of Five Immortals. I also found that for packet 13, bonus 20, the name of the preacher who led the Azusa Street Revival is William...
