I'm going to UNC Chapel Hill next year, and will definitely play as much quizbowl as possible.

Re: Nationals Alternatives?
As a person not very familiar with the work involved in running any kind of tournament, what is the feasibility of running any sort of nationals replacement tournament online? A small tournament involving just the top few teams would not involve my team and hundreds of other teams, but could perhaps...

Re: Understanding Literature as a Category
I am also a literature player, but for a long time lit was my weakest category. I have actually had the opposite experience you describe; I have learned more about lit than any other category through quiz bowl, as I have gone from not caring for the subject at all to potentially considering it for a...

Re: 2019-20 NC Discussion
I agree, although it seems the Charlotte circuit is taking some slow steps forward. Myers Park has been active in recent years, South Iredell is becoming serious, and at least one player at Providence (Samanyu) is interested in taking quizbowl more seriously. Good luck in that Aadit, that sounds lik...

Re: 2019-20 NC Discussion
I would second everything Aadit said. I would also like to add South Iredell into the mix. They were a young team and return all of their major scorers. They beat us at regionals, and if they cover up some of their weaknesses, they could be a real contender at states. Enloe is another team well wort...

Growing Young Players
We have a number of young/inexperienced players on our team. Is it best to try to have easier practices to try to slowly bring them up to A-team level, or are more intense practices and harder questions a better way to accomplish this?

Re: Generalist/Geography Specialist Desiring to Branch Out
You can definitely have two history specialists on the same team. On my team, our lead two scorers are primarily history players (one of which is me). It does work well, though, if you can subdivide the History cannon, as I'm mainly US and our other lead scorer does mostly world. However, if there i...

Mid-Season Analysis 1. East Chapel Hill A (Benjamin McAvoy-Bickford, Nick Parker, William Ke, Sophie Cronin, Andy Badea) Groger Rank: 66 Benjamin McAvoy-Bickford has now burst onto the scene, and if anything, he's even better than I anticipated. He's already one of the 3 best players in the state, ...

Do you have a studying routine? I always force myself to go through my quizlet cards as a routine, even when I have no motivation. Then, when I get sudden bursts of motivation, I do a bunch of extra studying, too.

Here's my top 5: 1. Early College at Guilford A possible A-team: Derek Chen, Ridge Ren, Ben Johnson, Kiran Soma I think Derek and Ridge are good enough to keep them atop the state, and might be able to make a run at HSNCT. My prediction is T-32 at HSNCT. 2. East Chapel Hill A possible A-team: Nick P...

I noticed that the links for bee nationals results prior to 2017 on the history bowl website don't work. Are the results available somewhere, or have they been lost to the sands of time?
Re: Expa
I think it depends on what you enjoy learning about. If you enjoy learning about history or science, go ahead and study it. If, however, you don't enjoy learning about it and find it boring, then stick to lit. You'll retain information much better if you learn things you're interested in.

Re: 2018-19 NC discussion
I guess I'll post my analysis first. Early College look like they take a huge hit, losing Tejas and Sylvia. They return Derek and Ridge, but don't seem to retain much other significant scoring. I don't know what freshmen they bring in, but it's highly possible they gain some serious talent there, wi...

Re: Turning a small, mediocre team into a good one
There are tons of historical threads on the forums about getting your team from mediocre to contender. Turning a small, mediocre team into a good one
I'm from a very small charter school in a rural area. As you can imagine, the number of players we have available to us is quite limited, As we tend to only have a max of about 15 players on our team, and its usually more like 10. We finished 203rd at nationals, so we're mediocre at best, and the hi...
