A couple of things from me. First, the Lu Xun issue brings up a trend that I wish we can do something about. I was born in China and lived there for 14 years. I've talked to enough of friends, acquaintances, relatives (especially older ones), etc. to tell you that while Lu Xun (鲁迅) is important, he ...

I slightly disagree, as I think there are a number of popular films from the pre 1950 period, although making it pre-1960 and even pre-1970 might be a better idea if you want to stay accessible. I mean, as much as I want to see tossups on _The 39 Steps_ or _The More the Merrier_ (or more reasonably...

Echoing the thanks to Zeke, Adam, Subash et al. I liked the bio and biochem in this tournament. i'm a bit disappointed by the biology. why are we asking for _G-protein-coupled-receptor_ when most of the clues points to the very much canonical _G-protein_? very early in that question, it was clear the answer is G-protein, but i was negged, and i presume others as well.

There will be no UCLA A, because UCLA B does not want us to come, and there's no more room in the car for me.
So there'll only be one team of 4 and a moderator showing up from UCLA. Apologize for the lateness.

We had four teams: UCSD, Irvine, a bastard UCLA team with Steve Katz, and Berkeley.
We played a triple RR and Irvine finished with only 2 losses, and UCLA et al with 3 losses.
Therefore Irvine wins the tournament. Stats are as above.

Field update: Berkeley 1 team. Irvine 1 team (2 persons). USC (?) 1 team. UCSD X teams (2?). Steve Katz 1 person. UCLA perhaps 1-2 persons. OK, to make the numbers work out nice, we're charging every team $70 each (that's way lower than original--almost 50% lower--and also lower than the main site); and should serve as incentive for teams that are on the fence to come. (To Minnesota we're paying $20 for each team as mirror fee.) We're w...

Concur that some of the bonuses from Stanford-Chicago's play-in game were ridiculous, and happened to fall to Stanford (who out tossuped Chicago). This isn't true: by my scoresheet, both teams got 9 tossups. That said, I probably do agree with the more general point that the few really hard bonuses...
