Re: MVP (Hybrid Side Event)

As of me posting this, 50% of the set is written (edited or otherwise). Currently, the set leans pretty heavily toward trash, but we still plan to even out the distro.

Re: Indiana 2019-2020

The issue now is holding tryouts. For those of you savvy enough to use this forum, you probably have access to last year's NASAT packets and know that NASAT is absolutely no joke. A tryout would need to be on a very difficult set. Unfortunately, with State and Terrapin in March and two national cham...

Bumping again because I've realized that I misnamed the team formation sheet, which may have led some to believe that you can only put a team name once registered. This is not the case. Sorry about any confusion.

MVP (Hybrid Side Event)

The Purdue University Quiz Bowl Team is proud to announce MVP (Musical-Visual Packet) , a tossups-only side event on just about anything you can possibly describe as "audiovisual art." The set will be weighted heavily toward opera and film, but we plan to also include ballet, music videos, musicals,...

Re: Indiana 2019-2020

I'd be extremely careful drawing conclusions based on these scoring "averages", because the morning rounds did not figure into them, only the single-elimination playoff rounds. Thanks for this info! The wording on the IASP's posts had led me to believe the opposite. The small sample does, however, ...

Terrapin Open @ Purdue (3/14/2020)

The Purdue Quiz Bowl Team is happy to host 2020 Terrapin Open on Saturday, March 14, 2020. Question Set : Terrapin Open is a tournament being produced by the Maryland Academic Quiz Team in collaboration with outside writers and editors. Its target difficulty is described as "halfway between ACF Regi...

I don't know anything about opera, but my teammate who does says that the tossup on Parsifal had a misplaced clue about transformation songs. He told me to post this on his behalf. Also, the consensus among Purdue's players was that the editors' packets were noticeably less difficult than the submit...

Indiana's quiz bowl teams probably don't know to check here, but be sure to sign up for Purdue's Boilermaker Buzzathon on January 11th if you haven't already played NAQT's IS-186 set somewhere else! I might be blowing my own horn a bit here (I am on Carmel's A team). Carmel, about 3 weeks ago, went to the Class Act Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky. Hi! I've been here, and it's really unfortunate nobody answered this yet. First, yes, I agree with basically all your points. It sucks to play a game and not have any impact on its outcome, and, unfortunately, the nature of quiz bowl can make it really easy to link "I'm not good at this" to "I'm not...

Re: Indiana 2019-2020

I'm about to pass out, but we have enough results to do an update. Saint Joseph is once again tearing apart their pyramidal home circuit, but I can't really speak to the competence of the teams who play nonpyramidal because nonpyramidal quiz bowl has an unusually high variance in scoring. At Purdue'...

Re: ACF Fall 2019 Specific Question Discussion and Errata

I played on a team who submitted a packet that wasn't used (Purdue B), and heard some of my clues used nearly word-for-word in other packets, often very early in tossups I would not normally be able to get since they'd normally be well outside my categories. This strikes me as something that shouldn...
