In one opera, a character declares her attempt to stop a beheading by seducing a character with this title in the aria “Non disperar chi sa?” Antonio Vivaldi’s first opera centers around a character with this title “in villa,” and describes that character’s attempts to woo the flirtatious Cleon...

Re: Specific Questions

Sorry that this comes, uh, 4 months late. The editors already saw me be very confused about this tossup in real-time, but as someone who usually sings both Vigil (Vespers + Matins) and Divine Liturgy weekly or more, the tossup on All-Night Vigil in packet 11 had a couple of clues that could be easi...

Re: Specific Questions

Because it will likely come up, I’d like to apologize for how confusing the swung rhythm tossup was. I thought it was both super intrinsic to music from the past 100 years and heavily underasked in quizbowl - which I still think is the case - but, the resultant tossup ended up being very confusing a...

Before I officially announce the online mirror of MUSES II, I would first like to find out when people would prefer to play the online mirror. Yeah, I'm definitely not arguing that I was right, I was just bewildered by the pronoun and was confused what concept the fixed stars could be referring to. That being said, people in Newton's time did conceptualize "rigid Euclidean space" in terms of the fixed stars, so there is a modicum...

For the "space" tossup, I probably should have figured out that because the question was in the philosophy distribution - answers like "reference frame" wouldn't really make sense and "relative position / location" was probably not likely to be what it was going for. S...
