CO History Doubles: The Guns of August will be held FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, the night before the Chicago Open main event.

I'm in the process of writing the questions. The current plan is for teams of 2 to play on mini-packets of 15 tossups and no bonuses.

If you are certain to play (not "I will play if somebody buys me a $500 ticket to Chicago", and not "I will play if you add some literature questions") please post here, so I can get some logistically useful data on that.

With the addition of one person who signed up by email, the field for this tournament is now either 10 or 11 people, depending on whether or not Matt Weiner's "mystery teammate" is somebody who posted in this thread or some random dude.

That means we should have at least 5 teams, which should go a ways to help justify our existence to mean old Mr. Teitler.

Is there any chance of upping the tossup count to 20 or adding bonuses? Not that it's a criticism, as your undertaking this tournament after it seemed doomed is very admirable, but 15 tossups seems really, really short. I personally wouldn't be opposed to writing 5/5 or something per player, though other people might not agree.

As Seth Teitler said in an earlier announcement, this will be held on FRIDAY NIGHT, or the evening before the Chicago Open main event.

Right now, we have either 12 or 13 players, which means at least six teams. Are there any volunteers for readers?

By the way, that's Andy Wehrman and not Mike Wehrman teamed with Noah Graf. I hoped that Mike would be able to come, but he's being a loser and working on his lousy dissertation in New Haven.

We can get into the rooms at 6 pm on Friday night, so we can start any time after that. If people want to start earlier, let me know and I'll see if we can get in earlier.

I don't know if this is a lot of people, but the Minnesota contingent will be driving down on Friday morning and arriving in the afternoon, so times before six really don't work out well at all.

So, assuming the current list of teams and players is the same as the players and teams that show up, we have 10 teams, with one of Mike Sorice, Ray Luo, or Lorin Burte being forced to play solo.

How many rooms and rounds is this going to require, assuming the number stays 10?

Hmm, I worry that you're asking us how many rooms and rounds (especially rounds, since you're presumably writing the number of questions for however many rounds you desire), but...

With 10 teams, you'd need 5 rooms - 2 teams per room playing each other. As for rounds, for a full round robin, you'd need 9 rounds. And then you could potentially have some kind of playoff round(s) after that, or whatever you want to do.

I believe that in both subject area tournaments, I narrowly beat out Mike for the neg prize (I think by ~2). Rau Luo's miraculous presence at the "science tournament" ensured I didn't make a clean sweep. All in all, my goal of beating Freeburg's ratio was realized, despite me negging the final question in a lit game against Lafer and Westrbook when we were up 15. I rule.
