KSU Invitational: Peeling the Onion

Postby Ike » Thu Sep 25, 2008 11:13 pm

This is the formal announcement for Kent State University's Invitational: Peeling the Onion occurring on November 22nd (Saturday.) The field will be capped at 32 teams, and KSU is aiming for representation from all across Ohio, and hopefully from beyond the border.

KSU is seeking for registration to begin at 7:30 AM and hopefully starting games by 8:30. The questions will be supplied by HSAPQ, and we will be using ACF style packet number 2. This is similar to NAQT in that there are 3 part bonuses for every tossup, but no powers, no clocks, 20tossups-20 bonuses, and different distribution and question writing style.

Structure of Fees::

First team: $80
Subsequent teams: $70
Buzzer discount: -$15/system
Staff discount: -$5/helper
Travel discount: -$5/100 miles traveled
Minimum fee: $ 50
KSU is seeking to maximize the number of games teams play, and yet be done within a reasonable hour.

Please respond at Sephiroth0kouko@gmNOSPAMail.com, indicating the number of teams you want to bring, the number of buzzer systems, and staff people you are supplying (indicating if they ever have read tossup/bonuses packets before.) We hope to hear from you,

Just a few explanatory notes:
Kenston B decided to bow out from the playoffs because they wanted an even number of teams to expedite things. It was hardly 1:00pm and coaches like to get home early in Ohio (at least some.)
Garfield Heights did not show up, and I probably should have done a complete round robin. This makes the bracket thing entirely Rube-Goldberg esque, and had I not been up photocopying stuff. I left the bracket thing a possibility just in case they did, as they certainly did not call me the day of.

Merry Christmas everyone.

There were no negs in this whole tournament?

A lot of tournaments don't use negs, and it appears that the lack of a neg column in the stats here shows this was one of those tournaments.

Just curious, since it was never mentioned in the rules in the first post, nor is that obviously the protocol for ACF or HSAPQ.

No I did not use negs.

The main reason for that was because of the field strength.
