If they don't reference Nancy Zerg in Starcraft II I'll return the game in disgust.
And then buy it again on my way to matching my record of buying the original game 5 times. Stupid misplaced CDs.

I had no idea that would bring up so much controversy. I apologize for my post. This thread may now carry on its normal course.

Yes. However, your statement is interesting in that there are several ways in which it could be considered bullshit. Behold:Sasquatch wrote:Anyway, am I the only gamer (Halo fanboys don't count) who dosen't really care about Starcraft 2?
1. You don't care about Starcraft 2, one of the most anticipated sequels of all time; thus, you AREN'T a gamer. QED.
2. You claim not to care about Starcraft 2, but in fact you care enough about it to mention that you don't care about it in order to seek attention to yourself; thus, you DO care about Starcraft 2. QED.
3. You state that "Halo fanboys" aren't gamers, insinuating that Halo 1 and/or 2 are bad games (a valid, if unpopular, opinion). However, if anyone plays Halo enough to be considered a "fanboy", then they are in fact a gamer, as a gamer is someone who devotes a significant amount of time and energy towards playing video, computer, or tabletop games. Thus, Halo fanboys DO count. QED.
Eh, whatever. Either one or more of those is true, or you're just deliberately trying to start some kind of anti-Starcraft 2 flamewar. My suspicion is both, so mission accomplished, chief.

Nope, I don't really care much about Starcraft. The only RTS's I ever really got into were the Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth ones.Sasquatch wrote:Woo nurgles_herald! Someone else who play WH (or maybe WH40K?)

Also, by saying "Halo fanboys", I believe he was referring to the ones that only play Halo and no other games, there are some like that.

Warcraft I and II, perhaps, since those came out in 1994 and 1995, respectively. One could consider Starcraft to be somewhat of a sequel, although it's really not. It is however, certainly derivative.ecks wrote:Derivative of what, though? Considering what Starcraft looked like at the beginning of its development, it could have been a lot worse...

Starcraft, as already mentioned, is derivative of Warcraft, which itself is a slightly improved version of Dune II (the first modern RTS). There's nothing wrong with being derivative, mind you; Starcraft is a nice enough game for all that. But there are plenty of RTS games which add more functionality or more variety within the RTS framework, and by the standards of even games that were released contemporaneously (e.g. Age of Empires), Starcraft is nothing special. It's just an ordinary RTS that looked nice when it was released and was somewhat fun.ecks wrote:Derivative of what, though? Certainly not C&C.

Which is plenty of reason for us to have a tournament, no? If there's seriously enough interest, we should do this. It's been a while since I played Starcraft, but I'm willing to get pwnt in the name of good fun.grapesmoker wrote:Starcraft, as already mentioned, is derivative of Warcraft, which itself is a slightly improved version of Dune II (the first modern RTS). The thing that makes StarCraft great is the gameplay. The races are impeccably balanced and there are enough strategies in each race's arsenal to keep the game interesting. And the physical aspects of the game (clicking, scrolling, hotkeys, queue time) are all fast enough to allow for top-level players to not be hindered by the game.
Anyone who doubts StarCraft's greatness needs to watch a couple Slayers_`Boxer` matches.
