COLLEGE (1/4/18, Skypeland)

Post by nycaqb1999 »

Hiya! I already posted the following to the Facebook-qb-sphere but I was told by some others that the forums might appreciate this packet:

Bard would like to announce our first "fun" packet: COLLEGE (Certain Overrated Locations for Learning Everything Generally and Expensively). Most questions will be of the "this college or university" type, but there will also be some common links. Take a look at the distro, which is subject to change/wackyfication (note: there will be only one 20/20 packet):

7/7 Northeastern (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT, NY, PA, MD, DE, DC)
7/7 Not Northeastern
6/6 Common Links/Fun Grab Bag Things That I Like

There will be two dates for competition, meant to coincide with the RD deadline: January 3rd at 9:00pm EST will be open only to HS Seniors, for thematic appropriateness. January 4th at 9:00pm EST will be open to young'uns and old'uns alike. Signup on this Google Sheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

In order to inspire greater interest, I am spicing up the prizes a bit:

1st Place: A small bottle of Poland Spring™ water, and the 2nd and 3rd place prizes.

2nd Place: A short avant-garde melodica solo (Lossless .FLAC), and the 3rd place prize.

3rd Place: List of interesting places to eat lunch in Queens, done in yellow Comic Sans.

Participation prize: a low res .jpg of a handshake

Best,

Max

Will the link to said Discord server be posted in this thread tonight?

ETA: also, how will the tournament be run on only one packet? Will it just be a shoot-out, but with bonuses?

Here is the link to the discord server where COLLEGE will be played. Note that it will begin around 9PM EST.
And yes since there is only one packet, the tournament will simply be a shoot-out, with bonuses.

Congrats to "The Best Team in College Quizbowl", consisting of Michael Coates, Bruce Lou, Eric Chen, and Cibi Pari on winning the packet reading for the Open Division.
Top Scorer was Michael Coates. Stats can be found here. Note that the standings/stats are weird because I could only pair 2 teams at once instead of having all 8 teams a single score sheet.

Final standings:
1. The Best Team in College Quizbowl (200)
2. Perfectly legal chimera (170)
3. brother of max and friend named max (145)
4. why is this a "tournament" on one packet? (65)
5. ILLEGAL CHIMERA (feat. Michael Borecki) (55)
6. Randomly Generated Free Agent Friends (30)
7. Super Random Power Friends Part Deux (25)
8. Big Bajaj Brand (didn't show up)

Max will give more details about prizes for those wondering.
