Right Triangle Open 2018

Post by betsynewmark »

We’d like to invite you to Raleigh Charter High School for the 14th Annual Right Triangle Open on Saturday, March 24, 2014 This is a high school Quiz Bowl tournament that will take place from 8:30 AM to approximately 4:30 PM, though we may finish earlier. The tournament is open to any high school team that wishes to attend.

Format: The competition will be nine rounds for everyone. There will be six preliminary rounds and for the playoffs, the teams will be divided into separate groups with the top four teams playing a Round Robin for the winner based on wins with points scored being used for a tie-breaker. We will be writing the tournament including one all-Trash round. All rounds will be played according to NAQT procedures, with 20 pyramid-style tossups and corresponding bonuses. We will play powers and negs, but there will be no bouncebacks on bonuses. As in years’ past, games will be matched throughout the day using our automated scoring program. Trophies will be awarded to the two top teams and book prizes for the top ten individual scorers.

As in the past, we will have one all-trash round. If you would like to check out the questions from a previous year, they are posted here: http://www.quizbowlpackets.com/1701/

Registration: To register, please e-mail Betsy Newmark at [email protected] with the number of teams and buzzers you wish to bring, and an e-mail address where we may reliably contact you. Soon after, you should receive a confirmation email and later you will receive a packet of information regarding the tournament.

Fees: The fee per team will be $70, with a $10 discount for each fully functional buzzer system that has a control box and eight buzzers. Payment may be mailed either prior to March 24, or paid in person on the day of the tournament. Please make all checks out to Raleigh Charter High School.

Teams: There may be a maximum of six players on one team's roster, up to four of whom may play at one time, with no exceptions. If you bring more than six players, you must register a second team to have all of them play. There is a half-time substitution opportunity in each game. Each player may appear on only one team's roster throughout the day—no switching between the A and B teams, for example. Teams may also play shorthanded with fewer players.

Food: Neither breakfast nor lunch will be provided by the tournament. Further information regarding local food options will be provided along with the confirmation email sent to you after registration.

We hope to see your team at the RTO!
