Piasa Bird Invite II @ Southwestern H.S. (Piasa, IL) 2/20/17

The Scholastic Bowl Team at Southwestern High School is pleased to announce that we will be hosting our second Piasa Bird Invitational on January 14, 2017 February 20, 2017. This is a reschedule due to the ice storm on 1/14/2017. It is also Presidents' Day. This is a varsity tournament but additional teams are welcome.

Format:
This tournament will feature the twenty tossup/bonus format using NAQT IS-155A. Games consist of twenty tossups worth ten points each followed by non-rebounding bonuses worth up to thirty points. Tossups will feature "powers" (additional points awarded for correct buzzes very early in the question). Negs will not be used.

For a 24 team field we will use four preliminary pools rebracket into two parallel playoff pools and four consolation pools (8 rounds). After Round 8, the top team from Championship Pool A will face off against the top team from Championship Pool B in a one ­game final, and the second ­place teams from the same pools will play a game for third place. Ties in the Championship Pools will be played off prior to the championship game.

Fees:
Base fee (first team from each school): $50
Second or subsequent teams: $45

I just want to take the time to thank all that helped with the PBI II today. While it is a small undertaking compared to other tourneys, it is a real endeavor for us here in Piasa.

We had some great moderators today and their talents did not go unnoticed by the kids. It was a benefit to them to hear top-notch readers.

While we were short staffed due to an error on the part of the tournament director (me), we weathered the crisis and still managed a fair tournament. A big thank you to everyone that went above and beyond to help us. Your efforts are greatly appreciated.

Hopefully we can put on a better event next year and the weather will also cooperate. If you have any suggestions for any improvements we can make, please don't hesitate to let me know.
