Nittany Lion Novice II @ Penn State University (11/12/16)

Penn State Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce the second annual Nittany Lion Novice Tournament! [Edit: The date of this tournament will be November 12th.] This tournament will be using our house-written Pennsylvania Novice set, and is primarily aimed at new-to-quizbowl schools and freshmen and sophomores at established programs. The initial field cap for the event will be 18 teams.

Logistics

Registration will begin at 8:00 am, the opening meeting at 8:45 am and the first round at 9:00 am. Details about where to park and directions to the tournament location on campus will be emailed to teams about a week prior to the tournament. The event will tentatively take place in the Willard Building on campus. Several excellent lunch locations are in walking distance, and directions/suggestions about where to eat will be provided to teams at the tournament.

Eligibility

Because this is a novice tournament, the following eligibility restrictions will be in place:
1. All students in 9th and 10th grade are eligible to compete
2. All students of any grade level who have never played a pyramidal quizbowl tournament before (IU competitions do not count against this) are eligible
3. Any student who has previously played pyramidal quizbowl but who has not averaged above 25 points-per-game at a tournament is eligible

Registration

To register, please e-mail me at [email protected]. Please include the number of teams, the number of buzzers, and the number of moderators you will have with you. I encourage all teams to bring buzzers and volunteer experienced moderators to receive discounts!

Teams may have a maximum of 6 players per registered team. You may register as many teams as you like, but if you are bringing seven players, you must have an "A" and a "B" team.

Fee Structure

$75 For first registered team
$65 For all subsequent teams
-$10 per buzzer
-$10 per moderator
-$20 New-To-Quizbowl Discount

The minimum fee is $45 per team. Cash or checks are acceptable. Please make checks payable to "Penn State Quiz Bowl."

Due to consensus among teams that the September date was too soon to get teams together with the PA school calendar, this tournament has been delayed to November 12th, 2016. All other information remains the same. Hope to see everyone there!

Final Stats

Manheim Township A defended their NLN title with an undefeated record. Kellenberg A took second, and State College A took third.

I want to thank all teams for coming out and being great sports all day. It was great to see so much young quizbowl talent having fun and enjoying the day. Special thanks goes out to State College upperclassmen Lars, David, and Lilly for helping to staff the event. See you in the spring!
