CATT XII (Johns Creek, GA) - 9/24/16

Post by ashwin99 »

Chattahoochee High School is pleased to announce the 12th Annual CATT (Chattahoochee Academic Team Tournament).
Our tournament will be held on September 24th, at Chattahoochee High School:
5230 Taylor Road
Johns Creek, GA 30022

Quick links:
Sign up here
Volunteering sign up here

Format:
We will have two divisions: Varsity and JV. Both divisions will play with the same rules. We are planning on a field cap of 56 total teams.
Each team will play preliminary rounds in the morning and a playoff in the afternoon.
Lunch (pizza) will be served after prelims.
The rules/format of the tournament are subject to change depending on how large the field is.
Trophies/plaques will go to the top teams in each division.
We are planning to keep individual stats.

Cost:
The cost will be $65 per team, and $60 for each additional team sent.
There will be a $5 discount for each working buzzer system (limit 2).
There is a $20 "distance" discount for each team that is over 100 miles away or from a different state than GA.
Registration payment can be brought in the day of the tournament or mailed ahead of time.

Volunteering:
Readers, thank you; our tournament depends on you! Readers will receive a free lunch; if coaches can read or you can spare some volunteers to read or help out, it would be greatly appreciated. Coaches who volunteer to read only have to read during the prelim rounds. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the volunteering sign up form. Thanks for your help!

Rules:
We will be mirroring WHAQ, which is a regular difficulty high school set. Details on the set can be found at this post.

Rounds are 20/20 with one tiebreaker tossup if needed. Both divisions will use powers (15) and negs (-5). Five players are allowed per team. We will not use bouncebacks, and substitutes are allowed after each game only.

If you are interested in attending, please fill out the registration form at this link.

If you have any questions, please post here or email [email protected]. Hope to see you all at the tournament!

Email sent to coaches:

Dear coaches,
Thank you for signing up for the twelfth edition of the Chattahoochee Academic Team Tournament, held in our campus (5230 Taylor Rd, Johns Creek, GA 30022) on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Please read the following information carefully so you are familiar with the rules and format of our tournament.

Schedule:

7:45 AM - Staffer meeting
7:30 - 8:15 AM - Registration. Please call Mr. Mathis if you are running late for the tournament.
8:20 AM - Opening meeting
8:40 - 11:40 AM - Prelim rounds 1 through 5
12:00 - 1:00 pm - Lunch
1:00 - 5:00 - Playoff rounds

Varsity: We will have five prelim rounds for Varsity, followed by lunch, then a 16-team single-elimination playoff. The top four teams will play a round robin for finals.
JV: Since the JV field is only 5 teams, they will compete in a double round robin (Each team will play each other twice for a total of 8 games).

Ties in varsity prelims and in JV will be broken by PPG.

Lunch info: Lunch will be served on-campus; teams should fill out a lunch order form in the morning. It will be $5 for two slices of pizza and a drink; coaches will eat free.

The tournament should conclude at around 5:00 PM.

Rules:

Up to 5 players can play at a time, and substitutions are allowed between rounds only.

We will be using powers (15), tens (10), and negs (-5) for both divisions. We will have no bouncebacks on bonuses. We are also planning on keeping individual stats; to speed this up, please send us your team rosters if you haven't already.

You have 5 seconds to buzz after a question is dead, 5 seconds to begin an answer after you buzz, and 5 seconds to confer on each bonus part or designate another player to begin an answer.

Thank to all of the teams for playing the WHAQ set! We currently don't have a private forum set up (although I expect one will be set up soon), so for now, any feedback about the set itself can be directed to me at jacob.orourke.7 at gmail.com.

There is a private discussion forum set up for the WHAQ set now! To request to join the discussion, go to your User Control Panel, Select Usergroups, then find "2016 WHAQ Discussion" and request to join from there!

By the way -- since we had a round robin for the final four, the stats do not rank the teams properly. Here was the final ranking:

1st: Dorman A
2nd: Hoover
3rd: Northview A
4th: Collins Hill A

Congratulations to Dorman, Hoover, and Northview for qualifying for the 2017 PACE NSC.
