Summer Practices at the University of Michigan

Post by itsthatoneguy »

Michigan Academic Competitions will host weekly, open summer practices starting May 9th. Practices will tentatively be from 7:30 to 9:30 on Wednesdays in room 4002 of the Michigan Union (located here: http://g.co/maps/qdt6n). If you are visiting the University of Michigan or happen to be in the area, feel free to stop by! If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at bryanbe AT umich DOT edu.

I'm attending a conference at UM next month from 5/15 to 5/17, so I'll drop in if time permits.

I, along with an entourage of DCC people, will without a doubt be coming to these.

I'm trying to set my UofM orientation around a wednesday so I can attend this. Hopefully they'll let me skip an evening activity or something for it.

Awesome! If I remember correctly, most of the activities near the evening are not mandatory, but you should try to attend anyway (don't want you to miss anything important). One of the nights you go to North Campus to watch a fun skit / safety thing, so try not to skip that.

Nothing is mandatory. Skip everything.

Is that what you did, Ryan?

By the way, one or more of us MSU folks will probably drop by at some point, if that's okay with you. And if it isn't, screw you.

If anyone from around the Lansing area is thinking about going to some of these, let me know. I'll be staying there for the summer, and it's not worth a Michigan Flyer ticket, but if someone can give me a ride I would appreciate it.

So basically Mark, when he feels like it, because no one else is gonna drive you.

One night is the skit and on the second day is the peer advising... Is the peer advising any important, or would that be the day to skip?

If I remember correctly, the peer advising is during the day, but you may be signing up for classes at night. Again, you probably shouldn't skip anything, but if there is scheduled free time at night, feel free to stop by.

Yes. Sorry for any confusion that may have caused. I apparently can't keep days straight.

So... I'm a high school student, but I'm a big fan of quiz bowl. So would it be okay if I came and dropped in on a few practices just to keep up over the summer? I'd also be interested in seeing what college quiz bowl is like, because I intend to do quiz bowl later on.

Practice will resume tomorrow at the normal place and time. Also, we are considering moving the day to Tuesdays or Thursdays since I will be working on Monday and Wednesday evenings for the rest of the summer. Obviously, if there is a drastic decrease in the number of people who can attend, then we will keep it on Wednesdays. If you have a preference, please post here or email me.

Due to the Ann Arbor Art Fair, which will making parking in the downtown / campus area very frustrating, we are moving this week's practice to Saul Hankin's house. If you would like to attend or need a ride, please email me for more details. After this week, practices will move back to the regular place and time.
