KABO/other august 4-5 events mirror in DC area?

Post by Matt Weiner »

I saw some allusions to the possibility of this, but is anyone actually organizing it?

I'm certainly not organizing anything, but I selfishly want to jump in here and say that I'm almost certainly going to be visiting U Delaware August 6-17, so if there's a site somewhere near there (and my goodness, I just looked on mapquest and reminded myself how close together everything is over there), that would be great. For me. Also if I can get a ride from Newark, or more likely from some convenient airport, to the tournament, and then a ride from the tournament to Newark, that would be really great.

I guess that's it.

Delaware would be able to host this if people thought that this was a convenient location enough for everyone, seeing as how UVA and VCU were having problems obtaining space. We'd be more than willing to defer to say Maryland or Penn though,

Just heard from Chris Ray and Paul Marchsteiner that UMD can do this. Hopefully they'll have more info for us soon.

Perhaps the prospect of seeing Seth Teitler will lure David Seal to this event? Any word from his agent?

Maryland is good to go with this, providing Kurtis/whatever appropriate party gets in touch with Paul and hammers out details.

In terms of side events, I'm aware of that tossup-only trash tournament that allegedly might not have sucked, and not much else. I assume that a few stray Mike Cheyne packets will spontaneously generate at some point between now and August 4th, but are there any other candidates?

I'd be at a Maryland site of this and would be up for most of the proposed side events from the other thread, but I'm particularly interested in Mike Cheyne's film set.

Is Maryland confirmed as the site yet?

I'm particularly interested in Ike's myth set as a side event.

I'm not under the impression that anyone has emailed Paul, but we're good to go on our end.

Is there some reason why no one from Maryland can contact Kurtis?

The last email I have from Kurtis (to reiterate: I'm not coordinating this tournament) implies that some other third party is going to make a final determination regarding whether Maryland is going to be the site. I'm not sure who this mysterious benefactor is, but if it's simply a fictional creation due to miscommunication, then I can't imagine there's anything holding off an announcement.

I emailed Paul about this again, and he hasn't gotten back to me. Just to clarify, there's nothing holding any of this back on my end.

There was going to be an announcement put up last night, but after fleeing from a series of power line explosions on Route 1 it was discovered that CP (like most everywhere else around DC right now) is without power. As soon as that situation is remedied, Paul will have an announcement up.

I can confirm though that KABO is happening, at Maryland, the weekend of August 4/5. Paul's post will lay out options for event slot management and other details.
